UPDATE: RICHLANDS, Va.—Police have tentatively identified the body found following a house fire early this morning at 317 Tazewell Ave., but the name will not be released until they are positive.
Director of Emergency Services W.A. Puckett said the fire was reported by a neighbor. When firefighters arrived, flames were coming out the roof of the house, he said, adding that they battled the blaze for about 90 minutes before it was under control.
When the body was found, investigators from the Richlands Police Department and the Virginia State Police were called in to handle the case.
Puckett said the body was taken to the Russell County Medical Center. An autopsy will be conducted to positively identify the body and determine the cause of death, he said.

RICHLANDS, Va. – At least one person is dead following a house fire early this morning on Tazewell Avenue.
Richlands Director of Emergency Services W.A. Puckett said the call came in around 3:30 a.m. and fire and rescue personnel are still at the scene. While sifting through the fire scene, a body was discovered, he said. No further details were immediately available.
Puckett said firefighters have done an excellent job of getting the blaze under control and keeping it away from adjacent properties. Homes on both sides of the street suffered minor damage from the blaze.
