An Investigation Is Underway After Someone Defaced A Political Sign In Abingdon, Virginia. The sign originally showed the Obama logo and read: “Vote Obama”. But the sign’s message was much different Friday morning.
The sign’s owner, Chris Johnson said he noticed the change as he was taking his 8 year-old stepson to school.
“He looked up and the terror in his eyes, it was just awful,“ Johnson said.
Investigators with the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department said someone spray painted “KKK Kill Bama” on the sign. Johnson said it was a family project to get his stepson interested in politics.
“If you don’t like Obama because he’s a black man and you come in the middle of the night and destroy my sign, then you are a coward,“ Johnson said.
The Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department is working to track down the person or people who vandalized the Obama sign.
“There are other ways of expressing your likes or dislikes to the candidates rather than in this manner,” said Sheriff Fred Newman, Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department.
Since this is considered a threat against a presidential candidate, the Secret Service is involved in the investigation.
“It’s just disgusting. I’m a big free speech advocate, but this is not free speech, this is something else, it doesn’t belong in our society,“ Johnson said.
A reward is being offered by the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Department for any information that would lead to an arrest in the case. Johnson said he plans to put up another Obama political sign.

ConcernedCitizen Abingdon, Va—-you have to be in some state ignorance. do a lil research on the financial crisis.(a good non-partisan source is factcheck.org) the main culprit is the CVA programs. stop with your immature wealth envy . that is just pathetic. the government,(R) and (D) put us in this mess. they wanted to be “fair” and give loans to every tom,dick, and harry that came along regardless of income,or crdit status.
now on the topic of this,whoever done this is just pure and simple STUPID. i agree with the earlier comment, the people responsible probably aren’t registered to vote.
I in no way shape or form agree with what was done to this sign. But would there be such response to this article if this had been a Mcain sign? I think not. I believe I could say that most people who left these comments are LIBERAL? and be right. Either way this should not have been done. But to those people who say its the parents fault the way these children have gone. What party started the women’s movement to get the women out of the house and into the workplace where the children could not be supervised. You people have such double standards.You people are like children you only want what you want when you want it. When we took women out of homes and God out of school that is what went wrong. These children could have been taught a lot of God’s law and there would not be such punk’s today. Wake up people!!!!

I would not put up a poster up of Obama when your next door neighbor is flying the confederate flag. I don’t know,........ Do they know they lost the war.

I add this: We only think we live in a ‘free country’. However most of us are being held prisoner in our own country by a secret society of bigots and hypocrites.
The ‘children’ that vandalized this person’s sign exhibit the same feudal mentality that our brave sons and daughters are fighting to end over in Afghanistan. Some ‘people’ in this world do not want to move forward, only backwards. And they want to take the rest of us with them. The very sad part about this mess is that the thugs that did this learned it at home and they will pass it on to their offspring. God help us all…
People can say “its just a bunch of teenagers” all they want, but there is more of this “anti” sentiment around here than just teenagers.
Someone I know has repeatedly had “Boucher” signs stolen from their property to no avail.
Personally, I do not even feel comfortable at WORK telling people my political beliefs or even putting stickers on my car for fear of getting my car hit/keyed by those who do not agree.
That is the undercurrent that is this area right now. If you do not fit in… watch out. It really makes me sad that more people around here can not be accepting of other beliefs and lifestyles like is taught in the Bible by the Jesus they so proudly praise.
You just gave these morons the attention they were seeking by doing this. Why even acknowledge such an obviously adolescent act done by someone looking for attention.
I would think there are much more important things going on in the area that deserve to have a voice.
I can’t believe people. What gives you the right to mess up someones sign in their own yard. We all have the right to support who we want, if you feel this strongly about it fine get a sign spray paint it however you want to and put it up in your own yard and leave everyone elses yard alone.
