What’s in a name? Politics, if you ask proud new father Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton, Tenn.

Some people distribute bumper stickers, some post campaign signs and others donate cash to support their favorite candidates.

Ciptak had another idea – sparked by the birth Friday of his baby girl.

“I don’t have a million dollars,” Ciptak said.

So he chose to endorse his favorite candidates for president and vice president by naming his daughter after the Republican ticket.

“I decided to actually name her Sarah McCain Palin,” he said. “I’m totally McCain all the way.”

A blood bank employee for the American Red Cross, Ciptak said he chose the name to show his support and to encourage others to vote.

But Sarah McCain Palin is not the name Ciptak and his wife, Layla, originally agreed upon.

“I sort of secretively went behind her back and changed the paperwork,” Ciptak said.

Ava Grace was the name originally chosen by the couple.

Fueled by his new idea, Ciptak caused a distraction and some confusion at the hospital by using two separate birth certificate forms.

“With the stress of everything going on, she, I guess, didn’t realize that a new form was printed with my handwriting because my handwriting is very noticeable, very unique,” he said of his wife.

Ciptak said he had no regrets at the time.

“The very next day, though, I did feel bad, my conscience set in,” he said.

Although the stroke of conscience failed to override his decision, he did admit to one concession.

“I was actually gonna name the baby John McCain, even as the girl, but I thought that was maybe too overboard,” he said. “I decided to actually name her Sarah McCain Palin, figuring hopefully I would get two weeks in the doghouse rather than two months.”

In the event the family decides to overrule the father, they’ll have one year to file an affidavit requesting the name change, according to the Tennessee Department of Health’s Office of Vital Records.

people should be free to do what they want.  however, when a couple names a child, it is a joint decision.  the big controversy here is that he went behind his wife’s back to do this.  also, people should be free to do what they want, as long as their actions don’t harm anyone else.  in this case, this girl is going to grow up to be made fun of, and at the end of the day, she’ll have a broken family to come home to, because i’m pretty sure the wife will choose to divorce this guy.  call me crazy, but i think that this guy set her up for a pretty crappy life.  as for abortions, trust me, women don’t take these decisions lightly, and if you call this scenario a father with a sense of humor, you’re just plain sick & twisted.  i hope you’re not married because i’d pity your wife if you were.

Hah!

Isn’t that the Ol’ GoP tatic at work?

Go do something behind someones back (I.E. Government/Citizen), Create a distraction to get what you want completed. (Terrorism Scare Tactics).

And yes, I’m insulting this loser, not because he makes the area look bad, or because I’m a “big bad socialist” but because he is a Class A Idiot.

I bet he couldn’t even give me a platform for either nominee in the Pres. Race.

I hope you enjoy your higher taxes and restructured “freedoms” under a McPalin ticket.

When his daughter grows up from his (soon to be) broken family to be a “Crazy liberal” all for that “baby killin” and those “gays ah marryin’”. Oh, and worried that her country’s economic and world status is plunging farther then the seventh layer of Dante’s cold frozen inferno .

What I thought was the worst aspect of this whole thing is that he deceived his wife, putting the paper she signed fully believing that they had chosen the name of their precious daughter together on the top of the stackas he walked out the door and then outside in the hall pulling out the hidden paper which they had previously signed but left the name part blank until they could figure out a name they both liked, pulling out that paper and putting the name he chose on her official birth registration for his own selfish political statment.

That is just plain dishonest.  My question is—if he would do that to her on such an important family issue, what else is he deceiving her on?  I suspect that when she enteres that voting booth in November, she will cast her vote for Obama simply as a protest against her husband.  And I, should she ever decide to divorce this cheating man—not cheating on her with another woman that we know of, but cheating on her by violating her trust and his word to her—I, for one, will, if asked, contribute without hesitation to her divorce fund to hire the best lawyer she can find to make sure she and her children get a fair shake in the divorce process.  Because, should it come to that, this guy will hide assets and lie.  I just hope she is a strong woman because she has a rough road ahead of her with this guy.

This is what you do when you smoke pot. I’ll bet this dude will show up in DC after the election as a cabinet member for john mcpalin. Secretary of education sounds like a good ‘position’ for him. Rite up there with the rest of the dope heads. Maybe they will put him in charge of foreign relationships?????

This man’s wife has my sympathy! I bet he wouldn’t think it was so funny if Layla “sort of secretly went behind his back” & named their son Clinton Kennedy Pelosi! Or how about Russell Gladiator Crowe? I’d help him pack, Layla. Surely he can find somewhere to “sort of secretly” live in Washington.

This is what only a certified nut would do, just for a day or two of his name in the news.  And, by the way, this man is not an Appalachian native. I do know who he is.  He is the worst kind of male chauvinist. And if the blood center is desperate enough to hire this nutcase, I won’t be giving any more blood here. This poor little girl will be the laughing stock of her entire life.  To sneak around behind his wife’s back and do something this despicable just shows what a condescending moron he really is.

This is hilarious.  The same people that are all up in arms over what this man decided to name his kid are the same liberals that don’t think anyone is fit to decide what is right for anyone else.  They like to talk about freedom and everyone’s ability to live their lives as each individual sees fit, but throw something like this out there and look out.  They are happy that a woman can take the life of a child, but if the father has a sense of humor, they can’t stand it.  Everyone just chill.

Two days as a headline is enough!!! If he wanted to give to the “cause” as he was quoted yesterday, go scare up some change to donate, they will take any anount you offer or volunteer some time. There goes his lame excuses for doing this attention grab. No instead he makes a descion for his wife and daughter with no regard. And yea evaningstar it does look pretty illiterate. I lived on both coasts of this country and this the kind ofthing that gives southern Appalachia a bad stereotype to overcome. And no I didnt use spell check, Im sure “someone” will point out my errors in spelling and grammar.

I usually enjoy the intellectual debate value of the opinions posted on various articles. Who doesn’t enjoy a great opinionated debate. But this article has brought out the most ridiculous comments I have ever had the misfortune to read. Some speak of how uneducated and inbred it makes the area look, all the while not being able to spell correctly in their comment. Others are just plain mean and attack a man they have never met and know nothing about. While what this gentleman did was not something I would have chosen to do myself, I applaud him for his willingness to show his support so strongly no matter the political party involved. Please people, take a moment to think before you speak. Spitting out such uneducated biased garbage like this is what makes our area look bad, not a man that makes a decision that affects his family only. It is people like you that would stigmatize this child, no one else really cares. Her name is Sarah, welcome to the world Miss Sarah.
