National Weather Service Says 2 Tornadoes Confirmed in East Tennessee

HUNTSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The National Weather Service has
confirmed that at least two tornadoes touched down in East
Tennessee on Friday.
   

Greg Cole, spokesman for the National Weather Service in
Morristown, reported that tornadoes with gusts of more than 110 mph
ripped through Scott County’s Fairview community and Claiborne
County near Tazewell.
   

Cole told the Knoxville News Sentinel that officials continue
working to confirm other tornado sightings.
   

Bobby Ellis, chief deputy of the Scott County Sheriff’s
Department, says about 15 houses were damaged, some very heavy and
some light.
   

No one was reported to be injured, Ellis said.
   

Severe thunderstorms with widespread damaging wind, large hail,
heavy rainfall and isolated tornadoes moved across East Tennessee
late Friday afternoon.
