Man Charged With Molestation Now Faces Child Porn Counts

ABINGDON, Va. – A man accused of molesting a 10-year-old child at an Abingdon apartment complex two years ago now faces additional charges of possession of child pornography.

Anthony Joseph Getman, 29, who now lives in Marion, Va., was indicted April 28 on 50 counts of possession of child pornography. He was arrested on the charges May 1, after police seized the computer in his home.

Getman already faced trial on one count each of sodomy and aggravated sexual battery in connection with the molestation accusations.

Both cases are scheduled for trial Aug. 14 in Washington County Circuit Court.

Getman, called Tony, is accused of inappropriately touching a young neighbor on more than one occasion and buying gifts for the child so he wouldn’t tell.

After being arrested on the molestation charges in 2007, Getman posted a $50,000 bond and was released on house arrest.

After his May 1 arrest, he posted another $15,000 bond.

According to court documents, Getman is allowed no contact with children and is required to stay at his residence except when accompanying his father or brother, who are to supervise him, to a store or gas station, medical provider, lawyer, psychological evaluator, social services or restaurant to pick up food.

Getman could not be reached at any of the phone numbers listed in court records or the phone book for him, his father or his residences. In the past several months, he has listed addresses in three towns.

His lawyer, Abbey Pratt, said neither her office nor Getman would comment at this time.

Check out the sex offender registry, and you will find at least one living in your neighborhood, I found several in mine. They look just like you and me and we never take the responsibility on ourselves to protect our community as we should, we want others to do it. The fact is that every crime has a guideline for the sentence that is formulated by the Virginia legislature. We complain, but do we EVER contact our legislator to ask the penalties be made stiffer. It’s not any more difficult or time consuming than commenting in this space. Until we show we care, nothing will change and we will continue to blame everyone but ourselves.

$15,000 bond after posting a $50,000 bond 2 years ago?  Why is one who is a repeat threat to society, especially children, out on any bond?

I don’t understand our court systems in situations like this. Someone needs to protect our children against people like this. I am very careful with my own two girls about who they allowed to be with, where they are allowed to go, who their allowed to be friends with. My girls are 8 & 11 years old and I know that they have to have friends and a life but I am over them like a cloud watching them and making sure that they don’t run across any perverts like this.
I never allow my girls to spend the night with anyone and I never allow anyone to spend the night with them and it’s all thanks to people like this man. I do not trust anyone when it comes to my daughters!!!

captainkona and molly09, I will agree with both of you on this one. These lower life forms should be much more harshly punished than drug dealers and most any other criminals!

Well captainkona I hate to say it but you just about got all that right. It’s horrible that this stuff happens to begin with and the fact that it has the chance to happen more then once by the same person is even worse. I don’t know what’s going on with people these days.

Well, farmer. You know how it is…

Catch someone growing a pot plant and it’s five years in the pen, but this type of sub-human gets to live a happy life at home and even go out for cheese burgers.

Can’t wait until Obama brings on the corrections reform this country so badly needs.

If this fella is convicted, just what will his punishment actually be?  Maybe some counseling? Probation? How about making him write he won’t do it again 500 times?

On the other hand, how about locking him up and throwing away the key?  IF, of course, he’s convicted.
