Man backs car into Kingsport restaurant, 2 injured
Published: October 30, 2009
An elderly man backed his Buick through the front of a Kingsport Chinese restaurant, injuring two diners.
The Kingsport Police Department told the Kingsport Times-News that police believe the driver was either trying to park or to leave a handicapped parking space by the restaurant’s entrance on Thursday when he hit the accelerator.
The vehicle came to rest with its rear two doors, back tires, trunk and bumper inside the building. Two restaurant patrons were taken to the hospital. Their condition was not immediately available.
Police could not say if the driver would be charged.

Constitution;
It’s very clear from your silly posts that you think the Constitution gives you the right to infringe upon everyone elses rights—
No founding fathers intended that- not even yours…
I have always wondered why it is a privilege for a teenager to drive a vehicle and a right for everyone else. The elderly are far more dangerous, generally speaking, than a young person. I guess if it was you eating at the restaurant and was hit by an elderly man you might feel differently. And as far as throwing God into this argument….really? Do you think that papaw having a driver’s license is on His daily agenda? Got to love a place wear everyone wears their religion on their sleeves instead of their heart.
BrightBetty, I stand for abolishing all drug laws, but at the same time I’m against drug use.But i believe the government has no right to tell individuals what they can or can’t put into their bodies. Here is an example of licences being unconstitutional “The Voluntaryist states that Chicago passed a law in 1898 requiring the owners of almost anything with wheels, including bicycles and wagons, to be licensed. That law was later ruled unconstitutional.“ Another example of our liberties being eroded are gun licences, and a right to bear arms is specifically pointed out in the Constitution. You can see in the definition of liberty; freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, etc. If i do not purchase a licence to drive then i am restricted from driving therefore it infringes upon my liberty and so on. We have lost a tremendous amount of liberties over the years, if the Founder’s could see our nation now they would be terribly grieved. Char, Please Be nice. Everyone is so rude on the internet.
BrightBetty,
You’ll never convince Con of anything. He is so convinced of the correctness of his opinion that he can’t be reasoned with. Maybe if he smoked a joint, he could chill out a little and think clearly.
Hmmm, still don’t see a thing about driving a car in there, and I’m sure it would be the same if I perused every dictionary on the web.
Con, you have your liberties, no ones taken them away unless there is something you’re not telling us. Listen, people have liberty in this country. We also have commonsense, and commonsense says that letting anyone who wants to behind the wheel of a three ton (or more) vehicle that could easily kill someone should be regulated. Otherwise, I might as well hand the car keys to my 4 year old and tell her to go have fun and try not to run over too many people no matter that she can’t look over the steering wheel.
Again, your liberty to travel within this country is not restricted by not driving or owning a car. If your version of god were that concerned that EVERYONE should be allowed behind the wheel, I’m sure he would have mentioned that in the book somewhere, despite cars not being invented for a few thousand years.
Or maybe, you’re trying to argue that we shouldn’t be required to use our drivers licenses as forms of government id. With that, I can stand behind you, but you need to find a better way of getting your point across. Otherwise, if you want to argue about personal liberties that are god given or granted by living in this country, stand up for ending marijuana prohibition. THAT is a true blow to our personal liberties, not requiring a license to drive a car.
Freedom/Liberty from getting ourselves killed by people who have no business being on the road!
Example: Diabetics who have slowly lost their eye sight…or ability to move their extremities to hit a brake pedal.
My sister and I had to talk our father out of driving because his diabetes had made his eye sight so bad he could only see shadows most of the time. He was to proud to ask for help! We figured it out he missed his driveway three times in one week! and he had lived at the same place for 23 years! Can you imagine what he was seeing when he was on the road? Would you want someone like this driving on the same road YOUR family travels on?

I agree and believe that laws should be passed to require that ALL drivers must retest every 4-5 years in order to maintain a license. You would be surprised at the people that are NOT seniors who would fail a paper or road driving test. This is the reason there are so many idiots on the road today…they have forgotten or have gotten into a serious habit of not following driving laws. I believe it would save more lives than seatbelt or cell phone laws!
you’ve taken the word liberty and inserted what you believe it means to suit your needs. The right to travel is not restricted if you follow the standards that make it safe-therefor not infringing on the rights of others. Once you violate the rights of another person while driving, your privileges to drive should be revoked. If you want to get across the country you can do so with many other forms of travel besides driving a car, trust me. Driving is not a god given right, no matter how you try and manipulate the word liberty.
Life, Liberty(the freedom to travel),and pursuit of Happiness are all God given rights. The automobile is the main form of travel today.
