People who live in Greeneville’s Meadowlark Subdivision say white supremacists are singling them out. Several homeowners in the mostly black neighborhood say earlier this month, in the middle of the night, the Ku Klux Klan dropped off hate mail in their front yards. They say they found about two-dozen KKK flyers along Benbow Road and Outer Drive.
The two different flyers are titled “Wake Up White America & Take A Stand” and “10 Steps To A Better America.“ The flyers denounce interracial marriage and homosexuality among other things. The literature also calls for a secure future for the KKK’s “White Christian Children.“
“The Devil is busy and (the KKK) talk about being Christians, how can you say you’re a Christian displaying all this hatred,“ homeowner Leroy Ripley wondered.
At the request of homeowner Steve Meriweather, the Johnson City-Washington County Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is now looking into the situation.
“I think that it’s a shame that here in 2009, we have a group of people that are walking around with a 1960’s mentality,“ Meriweather said.
The NAACP is standing behind the neighborhood, arguing the KKK, which lists its state headquarters as a P.O. Box in Kingsport, broke the law.
“Why you hating someone you don’t even know?,“ Johnson City-Washington County NAACP President Joyce Goines wondered. “You’re upsetting people and they may not know what’s going to happen when they leave their home or (when) they’re coming in at night.“
Still, the Greeneville Police Department says the people responsible for the flyers may not be guilty of any crime.
“The only actual crime that occurred in this situation would be possibly littering,“ Greeneville Capt. Terry Webb said.
Webb says investigators alerted the Federal Bureau of Investigation due to the nature of the flyers, but says it would be difficult to prosecute the KKK since its members were practicing free speech.
“People might not agree with what they’re saying, but there was no threats of violence or anything along that line,“ Webb said.
However, for people like Edward Reed who received one of the flyers, that is a hard sell.
“It’s a crime to me,“ Reed said. “That’s like they don’t want me living the way I see I’m supposed to be living.“

Klansman,
That was a wonderful expose’ on your unlimited intellectual proweness. Keep diggin’ my friend.
Pssst…..you’re looking smarter and smarter each time you post thoughts like your most recent. Keep it up, you’re really making headway with all the people who have been fooled all these years with the belief that “all men were created equal.“ Keep it up, you’re doing great!
Old and grumpy,
By the way, look up the definition of satire. Your pitiful attempt to play “gotcha” with me is as ridiculous as your defense of the KKK.
Old and grumpy,
Here is a homework assignment for you. Instead of constructing strawmen that serve no purpose, perhaps you would like to explain to me how my strawman in any way is racist in its meaning. If you can’t do that, then I suggest you crawl back into your hovel, hug your rebel flag, and keep wishing the Civil Rights act never happenned. Boy, them was the good ol’ days right?
I thought the Klan died out in East Tennessee because no one cared enough to pay attention to them. Are these out of state Klanners littering our neighborhoods? Can you just keep it at home and not invade us?

how long did it take some beer swilling redneck in a drunken stupor

Congrats chester you’re just as RACIST and HATEFUL AS YOU say the Klan is
I really can’t believe in the year 2009 that we still have people that want to live in the past. But why would the Klan that has a Kingsport address go all the way to Greenville to post their hate mail. Were they afraid to do it in Kingsport?
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Here is, by far, the most inane statement I have ever read: Posted by IndianaKlan-“I just find it a little ‘ironic’ and to be honest, HYPOCRITICAL, that the KKK is a ‘horrible group that should go away’, yet, the media spoke with the local NAACP chapter (the SAME as the Klan, only with African-American members instead of White), and no one says anything. We are no different than the NAACP, yet, it’s ok for them to be interviewed and have a problem with the Klan. So if you allow one ‘hate group’ in your area, then by all means, we’re here to stay as well.“
Unbelievable!!!! Perhaps IndianaKlan would like to inform us of the various similarities between the KKK and the NAACP’s histories. Then it would be a good idea to give a detailed analysis of the number of murders committed by each respective organization.
Isn’t it rather scary to see how these guys rationalize their thoughts? Making those type of comparisons give them so much leeway in their self governance of morality. For example, Mr. IndianaKlans logic would make it fair to compare the United States with Nazi Germany, because in actuality- both sides were responsible for innocent lives being taken during WWII.
This man speaks of not being a hate group and then goes on to say we are just against homosexuals, interracial marriage, and child molesters. The obvious problem with that statement is that Mr. Klan is attempting to portray the three as similiar in nature. Of course that isn’t hateful right?
Really, how long did it take some beer swilling redneck in a drunken stupor to come up with the idea that the KKK isn’t about violence and hate, it’s really about NOT LIKING homosexuals, interracial couples and child molesters? That type of logic is truly one of the most brilliant pieces of thought since Martin Heidegger’s work “Being and Time.“ <Sarcasm intended>
Obviously, Mr. Klan’s rebuttal is going to be that his group of Klansmen are different than the ones who allow Nazi’s in their coven’s or lodges or whatever they call them. He attempts to rationalize this argument by trying to differentiate his group of Klansmen from the traditional KKK. Isn’t that like a football coach try ing to tell you that even though his players wear helmets, pads, and score touchdowns; they really aren’t a football team because they never use the forward pass?
I am truly amazed that in the year 2010 ignorance is so bliss for so many.
It’s a shame when people don’t know how to enjoy life and to be thankful that God gave us a brain to to try and make something out of ourselves. We have enough problems living in the present SO PLEASE forget the past and ask God to guide you and forgive you for evil thoughts, that hurts no one except making you look like fools. We have enough Rednecks in this part of the country besides you wanting to make headlines. AND I think there are more people who are against the KKK than you might you think. Oh yes, I am white. Jean
Baker…you and your Phd….
funny your all funny….
People, lets all calm down and realize this isn’t about skin color. This is about the economy more than anything else. When the economy tanks, ignorant people with no education are usually the first to really feel the pain of the recession and, being mindless, they can’t stand tall and work hard and make things better. They must instead find something to make themselves feel bigger, better, more important. So while I know being black it makes you feel singled out and discriminated against, just remember that it’s the small brained that are suffering that are creating these situations. Still something to be concerned about, because being less than intelligent, it’s quite difficult to rationalize with those that turn to sheep and point fingers at others in an attempt to blame for their own faults and short-comings.
I believe that the root of this is poor upbringing, probably generations of mental inadequacies, and the lack of single minded thinking topped off with job loss and constant negativity in the home economics creates a ‘prejudice robot’ easy to wield by anyone with half a notion. Just turn them toward anything, anyone, and say, “bad thing or person” and the robot nods and agrees without thinking. Very sad, really. Such a waste of a good McDonald’s burger flipper.
