UPDATE: No Guns Allowed In Johnson City City Parks
Guns In Parks Law
A new law in Tennessee will allow people who have a gun carrying permit to carry a gun in a state park.A new state law in Tennessee is creating some controversy. It will allow people with gun carrying permits to bring handguns to parks. The new state law does allow for city and county leaders to opt out of the law. State leaders say the law was designed to make state parks safer. But those who use city parks like this one in Bristol, don’t believe the law should apply here. Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey said the law was designed to make state parks safer. City and county governments have until September 1 to decide to opt out of the new law.
Thursday night, Johnson City City Council members unanimously voted to prohibit guns in city parks, with the exception of trained law enforcement personnel.

Let’s see. The State Legislature passes a “law” allowing CCW carry in alcohol serving restaurants….but we can’t carry there. They pass a “law” allowing carry in parks….but we can’t carry there either. I suggest the State either fix this or CCW holders refuse to renew their permit and just carry….just like they do in Vermont and Alaska. As someone who takes his freedom (and life) seriously, I have grown weary of and have lost patience with those who would deny my right to defend myself. I will carry….period!!!
Haven’t you heard, Gun owners , protesters, Conservatives and vets are terrorists now. If they pass the “Hate crimes bill” they can send you off to prison for hurting someones feelings or having a bumper sticker someone finds offensive. I urge all vets and LEO’s to go to http://oathkeepers.org/oath/ and make a pledge. In the word’s of Ben Franklin at the signing of the constitution “We must all hang together, or, assuredly, we shall all hang separately.“
Didn’t they just petition to allow guns in bars… and now I am also reading on this site they are trying to take them back out. What happened to our fourteenth amendment again? Seems like the criminals have more rights than legal permit gun holders. Times were much simpler in the olden days where we were not questioned and guns were treated as a rite of passage between family members and shown as a sign of respect. Like I said though now its cops or criminals, “we can have own dictator 1000 miles away, or 1000 dictators 1 mile away.
Jazzy, do you realize how many people you pass everyday that has a CCW permit and is carrying a weapon that you don’t notice? Walmart, Target, the mall, hope that people like yourself never find yourself in need of protection in a deadly situation and no one can help, people need to be thankful that there are few of us whom can protect ourselves, families and the fellow man. I don’t anyone with a CCW permit that would leave or let the general public (families and kids) have a weapon in open sight or laying around. My keys and gun are 2 things that I don’t leave home without. The 2nd Amendment was put in place to protect all the other amendments!
This is in response to Ron’s post on the 6th. The law does not permit the use of deadly force in the protection of property. Deadly force can only be used to protect yoursself or others from serious bodily harm or death. Police officers should identify themselves upon any entry.
You will never convince the narrow between the eyes crowd that crime rates go down where legal carry is permitted. It has been proven time and time again just read John Lott’s book More Guns Less Crime. Arguing with these people is like tilting at windmills we will never convince them and I pray they never have to find out the hard way. We should be focusing out time and effort on getting the right lawmakers in office and educating our children not making them afraid of something. Before you ask yes I do have children and they are all trained on firearm safety and have been for many years.

Here’s a video where Mr. Holder himself says its not equality for all under this bill. Say bye bye to Amendment one and fourteen, well unless your in a “protected group”.
Hey Jazzy, Do you sleep with your doors unlocked now? Crime rate is not like it was back when. I know growing up, we didn’t expect to be robed but dad had a shotgun ready if it should happen. Another point I’d like to make, This isn’t just about “Kids in parks”. There are lots of parks such as Roan Mountain, Warriors Path, Buffalo Mtn, Rock creek and such where we like to hike in far away from kids. I personally like to take my son to winged deer in the evening to fish, and sometimes we stay past sunset. It’s less about fear and more about being self sufficient like Americans have been since it’s creation and standing up for your unalienable rights. Just like this Hate speech bill that’s being passed now, That will set a prison term of 10 years for hurting someones feelings, Federalize local police, and pretty much kill our first amendment rights. Think I’m Joking? I’ll include a link. We allow these elected servants to wipe their butt with our Constitutional rights. http://www.house.gov/paul/tst/tst2007/tst050707.htm

Better get on the phone with our House and senate to squash this one too.
Jazzy, I would be willing to bet your grandparents and parents never locked the doors to their homes at night, either. (Or if they did, it was probably just a screen door.) How many doors do you check before going to bed every night? How many locks do you activate on each door? This is not the same world it was “back in the good ol’ days”.
Another aspect of this argument I haven’t noticed anybody mention yet is the animal factor. I periodically see tragic stories that make national headlines about a neighborhood Rottweiler/pitbull/doberman, etc. managing to get loose and attacking a child who was innocently playing in their own front yard. Exactly how long do you think a child (or an adult for that matter) could survive an attack from a dangerous dog like that? Would you be willing to bet your loved ones safety that any dangerous dogs in the area are always securely locked up by their owners with no chance of escape? Other humans are not the only dangerous threats in low-crime areas…
My grandparents and parents took me to parks as a child. They never felt the need to carry a gun, nor do I. I think that any area where children and families gather is no place for guns. And if you’re so “scared” that you can’t go to a park without a gun, stay home!
