» 1 Comment | Post a Comment

Quite a scare for folks in Unicoi County Wednesday afternoon as ferocious storms swept through spawning some threatening clouds.

The Sheriff’s Department activated its tornado siren after getting reports of possible funnel clouds at several spots in the county.

It also activated Reverse 911; a system that sends automated messages to everyone in the county warning them to seek shelter.

Deputies fanned out across the county, scanning the skies for possible tornadoes.

A Unicoi daycare center ushered children into a basement after deputies warned teachers of possible tornadoes.

This one really scared me. I thought that we were for sure going to be hit by this tornado. Thank God it didn’t happen.I live in a mobile home and I am scared to death of tornados or even real high winds. It’s not often that we would get tornados here in Erwin but it’s always possible. I know right now after all that rain we got that the river is really up and we are keeping our eyes on that b/c we live real close to the river.
