A big announcement regarding one of Nascar’s most popular races, and certainly one of the Tri-Cities most beloved sporting events, will be made today.

Bristol Motor Speedway President, Bruton Smith, and Food City representatives will make an announcement concerning March’s Food City 500 at 3 p.m.
What will be said is still unclear at this point.

Over 100,000 people go to BMS every year to watch this race at the world’s fastest half-mile oval.

I personally don’t care about NASCAR like I used to but don’t be so quick to bash BMS, it does add quite a bit to the local economy twice a year.

It is not the sport it use to be in so many ways. Who can afford the costs of this today—tickets, drivers, cars, gas? It is all becoming a big waste of money, especially in these times today.

I agree with you Norton.  Here they opened up the season tickets because people can’t aford to buy them.  It was my understanding that NASCAR did not renew their contract with BMS.  IDK!!!  You know, many many years ago, when they had concrete seats, you could purchase tickets for maybe $30.00.  Now you are required to buy season tickets.  I have no desire to watch another race.  This was compounded when I got tickets to Charlotte and sat in traffic 5.5 hours and still never made it to the track due to weather related parking issues.  We turned around in the median and came back home wherein I mailed them my tickets and told them to stick them where the sun didn’t shine. What I don’t understand is, the auto makers are whinning they need money, gas is getting ready to go through the roof again….what in the crap do they expect?
