Food City 500 Announcement
BMS Announcement
BMS AnnouncementA big announcement regarding one of Nascar’s most popular races, and certainly one of the Tri-Cities most beloved sporting events, will be made today.
Bristol Motor Speedway President, Bruton Smith, and Food City representatives will make an announcement concerning March’s Food City 500 at 3 p.m.
What will be said is still unclear at this point.
Over 100,000 people go to BMS every year to watch this race at the world’s fastest half-mile oval.

Maybe they will tell ppl that they have discontinued the fuel bucks at the local stores, the stores won’t tell you until you ask for them.
FC needs to sell more beer and cigarettes to pay for the races- get out there and spend money!
If BMS loses any races, it will hurt the local economy of the entire Tri-Cities area. You can love it or hate it, but you can not deny it’s relevance with regards to our local revenues.
As an area resident, I hope that whatever the announcement is, it does not have too much of a negative impact on the Tri-Cities during this difficult economic period.
If you are a local surely you know to fill up the tank and get groceries before hand. I do. I don’t pay those prices, only those that are traveling in that forgot to bring something or just plain have too much money. And if they just brought too much money…well, we are glad to have it. Everyone I know gets their gas, groceries and anything else they need before the prices go up. You wanna complain about prices of things go talk to the movie theatre…four dollars for a soda…THAT is robbery.
I agree with evaningstar!! I am not a die hard race fan but BMS does bring in a lot of money to our area twice a year!! It also helps people that live around the race track that are parking cars and letting people camp make extra money to be able to pay there bills and live for the year. Yes it stinks trying to get around those two times a year but it is well worth it for all the money that those fans bring to the area. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR BECAUSE IF YOU THINK THINGS ARE HIGH NOW IF THEY CLOSE BMS IT WILL BE EVEN WORSE!!!!!
The race does boost the local economy, I watch the price of everything go up every time they have a race, and as a local that is wrong and should be criminal.
TAKEN ANY BETS THAT FOOD CITY IS OUT>
BIG MONEY SAYS HE’S IN FOR THE LONG RUN>
LESS THAN TWO HOURS WE SHOULD KNOW.
I pray that they are not moving the spring race to another track or anything like that. Bristol is very dependent on the revenue that is brought in during race times. The two big races are not the only events that are held there. Some of the smaller mom and pops here depend on the race fans to get them through the rest of the year. Countless non-profit groups work different areas at the track to earn money. Local High school bands, football, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, churches, youth groups…the list is huge. These groups depend on the earnings they get from the track as well. I don’t go to the big races but do know how important that track is to this and the surrounding cities. You try to get a motel room within a 100 mile radius within several months of a big race. You think our taxes are high now…let’s just see what the government would have to do to make up for that kind of lost revenue. Be careful what you wish for.
I agree the racing at Bristol is NOT what it use to be, the new cars and the new track and the lack of tight racing and aggressive racing has made it boring.
Nascar, winning by fuel milage and pit stops, and lucky dog and all the other crap has made it boring. A driver can not even speak their mind with out fear of fines or suspension. Close the track for all I care.
Birstol, TN will go bankrupt w/o BMS, and JC would be in a tight spot.
So ponder that everyone…
