ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) - A new father has secretly named his baby girl Sarah McCain Palin after the Republican ticket for president and vice president.
Mark Ciptak of Elizabethton put that name on the documents for the girl’s birth certificate, ignoring the name Ava Grace, which he and his wife had picked earlier.
“I don’t think she believes me yet,“ he told the Kingsport Times-News for a story to be published Tuesday. “It’s going to take some more convincing.“
Ciptak, a blood bank employee for the American Red Cross, said he named his third child after John McCain and Sarah Palin to “to get the word out” about the campaign.
“I took one for the cause,“ he said. “I can’t give a lot of financial support for the (McCain/Palin) campaign. I do have a sign up in my yard, but I can do very little.“

I find it hilarious that all these outraged comments use pen names, yet cry like a baby because a father chose to name his baby after two people he admires.
The father has the guts to have his and his families names in public. That is more than we can say for the complainers. Hilarious!
I believe that that thar baby is one of them thar clones. And I bet she ain’t the only one. I’ll bet Carter County is full of um. Come 20 ears from now all them clones will buy high powered rifles and starting shooting all them mountain mooses that the government is stocking on top of Holston Mountain.

HE didn’t “take one for the team.“ He forced his newborn to. Very classy. Now this poor kid is saddled with being the continual mascot of the 2008 election, and it’s more than likely, the losing mascot to boot. I’m sure when she’s 16, she’ll be just as ecstatic about being “Sarah Palin” as most people my age would feel about being named “Geraldine Ferraro.“
If he really felt like making a sacrifice “for the team,“ he should have changed HIS name to “Sarah Palin.“

Sorry He not she, but you need to call Sycamore Shoal Hospital as they do require BOTH parents to sign the Birth Certificate. Married or not if a father is listed and it is a tn state law
Psssst… hey nana pooh Im not a she, and I phoned the Office Of Vital Records at the Sullivan County Health Dept, and yes they have to follow state guidlines for birth records, and they told me NO both parents are not required by law to sign even if the parents are married, the child will automatically and legally take the name that is written down by “either” or both parents to be accepted as a legal birth in the state of Tennesse.
I was not saying I agree with the name what I am saying is the mother can say no and not sign the birth certificate It is up to both of the parents not just him. So before Rebel65 jumps she needs to think. By the way I am not voting for mcCain Happy
Yea nana poohbear its their choice alright. The first decision ever made for her was stupid. Ill concede that Sarah is a beautiful name and Palin might be pulled off very well for a middle name, but to give her such an obvious sir name as (Mc)Cain, for a middle name?. Its a stupid grab for attention, I dont care what you say. I voted in my first election in 1984, Im glad I didnt have a lapse in sanity like this guy and name my first daughter Geraldine Mondale Ferraro! And we know how that election turned out.
Both of them have to sign the Birth Certificate so back off and let them enjoy what ever name they choose it is their choice.
