A fuel spill closed part of a busy Tri-Cities road.

It happened Tuesday morning at the Daniel Boone Travel Center on Highway 23 in Duffield, Virginia.

Police tell Your Tri-Cities News Source, a pump stuck and covered a parking lot with fuel.

Hazmat and state road crews joined Duffield and Gate City Volunteer firefighters to try and clean up the mess.

News Channel 11 Videographer Phillip Murrell was on the scene to capture the clean up on camera. He asked Travel Center supervisor Carla Bledsoe what caused the spill.

Bledsoe says maintenance workers were putting on filters. The pressure of the gas was too strong. The supervisor says maintenance workers lost under 10-gallons of gas.
