Doctors at Johnson City Medical Center welcomed the region’s first set of quintuplets Tuesday night. The Caesarian section took more than 25 people and months of planning to execute, according to JCMC Neonatal Intensive-Care Unit Director Dr. Mike DeVoe.
Although Jacob, Moses, Adam, Annabelle, and Addison Davis all arrived 11 weeks early, the quintuplets were in stable condition Wednesday.
“The babies were all delivered and admitted and stabilized and pretty much tucked away in here within about two hours of delivery,” DeVoe said. “Right now, all five patients are not needing any respiratory support, which is very good.”
According to doctors, the quintuplets’ mother, Virgie Davis of Carter County who has two older children, was also doing well. They said the children were conceived without any fertility assistance, making the Davis’ natural pregnancy rare.
“The odds are one in 65 million,” East Tennessee State University Perinatologist Dr. Jessica DeMay, who performed the Caesarian section, said. “It’s a rare thing. One of our perinatologists has been doing this for over 30 years and this was his first set of quintuplets.“
Doctors estimate the babies, whose combined weight is less than 15 pounds, will remain at Johnson City Medical Center for two months.

News Channel 11 Connects has confirmed that an Elizabethton woman gave birth to quintuplets at the Johnson City Medical Center Tuesday night.
A hospital spokesman said more specifics about the birth will be released later today, but the spokesman said the mother and father want to preserve their privacy. No other information was available from the hospital about the condition of the babies.
Questions surfaced about the rare multiple birth when a woman who said she was the babies’ aunt called local radio station WTFM to share the news of the big arrival. When contacted by News Channel 11 Connects, the woman said doctors performed a c-section at Johnson City Medical Center, delivering the babies who weren’t due until September. She said the couple from Elizabethton have two other children, and she said the quintuplets were conceived without the aid of fertility treatments.
A hospital spokesman couldn’t confirm if quintuplets had been born before at Johnson City Medical Center or in the Tri-Cities region.

I understand that the Aunt of these precious babies wanted everyone to know her exciting news. However, does this constitute the “right to Privacy” the proud parents have? They have enough to worry about with the early delivery now they have to deal with the press and this Aunt’s unwillingness to keep their news private.
That “aunt” owes them 18 years of free babysitting for opening her big mouth!
how sad that even though they wanted to “preserve their privacy” some loud mouth family member couldn’t respect it. I’m happy for the family’s new arrivals but sorry for the ‘aunt’.
This is an amazing thing that has happened!!!
