College students face 5 percent tuition hike in Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Students at Tennessee’s public colleges and universities could be facing a 5 percent tuition increase.
Tennessee Higher Education Commission executive director Richard Rhoda told Gov. Phil Bredesen at budget hearings Thursday that the tuition recommendation has been passed along to the administrators of the University of Tennessee system and the Board of Regents schools.
Rhoda said THEC is also encouraging differential tuition payments, meaning students would pay varying rates depending on which subjects they focus on.
Rhoda says higher education has planned a 6 percent, or $64 million, reduction in its spending plan for the budget year that starts July 1. The planned cuts come even as schools cope with a 7.4 percent increase in enrollment this year.

Just lovely. As usual, the students will be expected to just sit back and take it. College is becoming nothing more than a big rip-off.

Here we go again. More increases in everything put a mans paycheck. I want someone, anyone, to tell me how a person is suppossed to afford all of these price increases with no increase in pay, or no job at all. This is getting out of hand and im afraid the people of america are gonna revolt and its gonna be some rough times ahead for politicians. If i were them i would be too scared to stick my head out of my own home. They are passing laws that are actually killing us and its time we fight back. They can kill us with no reprocusions. Strange isnt it. The american dream of getting a college education and then a good paying job is longgg gone. Now all you have at the end of your college career is more debt before you even get a good job and those good jobs dont even exist. I ask why go to college? THe job market is flooded and there are no jobs to use your education at right now and none in the forseeable future. I may sound pessimistic but its true. There is no positive in this country right now. Hopefully Lord Obama will lose the next election and we can deport him to a tiny island to live out the rest of his life alone and ashamed.
