‘Coats For Kids’ Day Set For Saturday
BRISTOL, Tenn. – King College is collecting adult and children’s winter coats for the 10th annual “Coats for Kids” Day, which will be held on campus Saturday.
The event is a partnership with King College, Craig’s Cleaners, Compton’s Cleaners, Bristol Mall and the YWCA’s “Week Without Violence.”
“The Bristol community has truly rallied behind ‘Coats for Kids’ in previous years,” Heather Levesque, director of student engagement at King, said in a written statement. “We are grateful that so many community members and organizations are supporting our students’ service project. Together, we are ensuring that children in our community have the coats, scarves, and gloves they need to stay warm this winter.”
King College student volunteers will greet families and help youth select winter coats in Kline Gym from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The Bristol Tennessee Virginia Association of Realtors will provide hats, gloves, and scarves for all the children.
Also at the event:
* Breakfast will be provided by Blackbird Bakery, Daylight Donuts, and participating Food City stores.
* The Education Department’s student organization, Kappa Epsilon, will provide carnival games and face painting.
* The YWCA will hold its annual Youthapalooza, an event of the “Week Without Violence.”
* Several area agencies and organizations will provide information about their programs and services while offering entertainment for the children.
Donated coats can be dropped off at any Bristol, Tenn., or Bristol, Va., elementary school, The Bristol Mall, Craig’s Cleaners at 1375 Volunteer Parkway #12 in Bristol, Tenn., or either of the two Compton’s Cleaners, at 310 19th St. in Bristol, Va., and 110 State St. in Bristol, Tenn.
Cash donations designated for “Coats for Kids” will be accepted at King College’s administration building.
