Health officials encourage parents to get their children the H1N1 vaccine.Nine year-old Frank Wadewitz has H1N1.
“I couldn’t even get down the steps when we were coming to the emergency room,“ said Wadewitz.
Frank wasn’t feeling well one day at school, he went to the doctor that afternoon and was taken to the hospital two days later with a very high temperature.
“Never dreamed two days after the diagnose that we would be here at the emergency room,“ said Edith Ann Buckles Wadewitz, mother.
Frank isn’t unique. An untold number of children in the Tri-Cities are fighting H1N1. Dr. Joe Ley is Chairman of Pediatrics for Holston Medical Group. He said they are seeing more children come in with H1N1 and the seasonal flu.
“We’ve had probably almost a doubling of volume at this time compared to this time last year,“ said Ley.
So which children are most at risk for H1N1? Dr. Ley said children from birth to 6 months of age who aren’t allowed to have the H1N1 vaccine, also children with asthma or other chronic diseases are also at a greater risk for H1N1.
Even though there is some concern over the H1N1 vaccine and complications like fevers and soreness, Dr. Ley is convinced that all children should be vaccinated.
“We’ve seen kids now that have had the vaccine and tolerated it very well. We would expect that they should do quite well just like with the regular flu shot,“ Ley said.

I’ve tried for over five long years now to get answers concerning hospital infection being spread into our communities; health care, health departments, health regulators and politicians are really good at giving you an excuse, pointing you in a different direction or no reply at all, which is a good thing because when you have a concern for the health of your community, children and innocent people who are dying because no one will do anything, there is no responsibility, just more statistics . I have asked about every board and agency, political official and myself – how many more innocent people and children have to die before getting an answer to a question asked in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 ? How many more deaths could have been prevented ? http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62 As a former embalmer and witnessing the AIDS epidemic three decades ago I can tell you we have to begin today to stop MRSA from being a pandemic. The very health care system we trust, who advertise their quality health care that is true in some cases but I know what is on pubic record showing their actual “acceptable standards of your and your families health care”, which is nothing like any of their ads I’ve seen. Hospitals are breeding MRSA ( methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureaus ) and dumping it into our communites, it’s time for our Governor’s, Congressmen, Senators, local Chamber of Commerce, Mayors and Supervisors, health boards and departments etc, to start listening and get to talking about a solution to address MRSA before the next infection (instead of the next election ) takes over, it’s called VRE Vacomyacin Resistant Entercocci rearing it’s ugly head already. It may take another five years of questioning people not doing their job (unless they are being paid to avoid you), I am determined to do all I can to turn back the disease and lethal bacteria killing otherwise healthy folks and it has to start in the health care scam we call the best health care system in the world so badly broken in America. This is not a government conspiracy, it’s a greedy filthy health care system and filthy greedy politicians.
I know for a fact that at several local health departments and Dr. offices the office workers (with NO patient contact) and their families were given the vaccine. That is why they ran out. The majority of these people were in no way high risk. Now the high risk children will be left to fight this terrible virus.
bj38: that is an interesting theory. I have heard many others say similar they have similar opinions.
This h1n1 flu is a government conspiracy. I know most of you wont go along with that and believe it but we all know its true. Now the government is making money from the vaccine. If they deny it they are lying. You all can belive what you want but the government is a very evil entity.
