The Sullivan County Sheriff’s office plans to release more information today about a 10-year-old boy who police say flipped the family car at 90 miles per hour Sunday night with two adults riding shotgun.

Sullivan County Sheriffs say three kids—including the 10-year-old—were inside. They found the car on it’s top, and say a woman was in the car swallowing pills, with a man, who says he drank more than 15 beers.

The crash happened on Flatwoods Road, in the middle of Cherokee National Forest, just off the southern tip of South Holston Lake.

Police charged Randy Lewis with his third DUI and child abuse.
Captain Keith Elton says Lewis admitted to drinking at least 15 beers and liquor before the crash.
The shirt Lewis was wearing ironically reads, “Buy this dad a beer.“

Luckily, police said all three kids are okay.
The woman, Paula Elaine Evans, was released from the hospital last night.
She also faces several charges.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s office believes a 10 year old was driving a car moments before it crashed Sunday on Flatwoods road in Sullivan County.

Police responding to the accident found an overturned car, three children and two adults on the scene, according to a report released by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.

“The officers noticed that the adult female, Paula Elaine Evans, was standing in the roadway putting as many pills into her mouth as she could and swallowing them.  The officers prevented her from taking anymore,” the report stated.

“The adult male, Randy Lewis, appeared to be intoxicated and admitted to consuming at least 15 beers along with liquor,” it stated.

After further investigation of the scene police learned that a 10-year old boy was driving the car at speeds near 90 miles an hour at the time of the wreck, according to the report.

The mom was just as much to blame as the the dad.  no she wasnt drinking she was trying to eat all of the pills she could b4 she got caught w/ them. In my opinion neither of them are parent material

I can only imagine the frustration the mother of this 10 year old must feel.  It is an outrage that our judicial system failed to protect these kids.  I would like to see the media launch an investigative report in the history of both of these individuals, I am sure they would find that this is not the first time either one of their judgment in raising kids has been called into question by the authorities.  I guess the question is….how many times does it take before someone will take the side of child safety?

MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS GO OUT TO THE MOM AND HER CHILD. THE JUDGE NOW HAS PROOF AND NEEDS TO LOOK AT THIS NOW AND SEE WHAT COULD HAVE REALLY HAPPEND…THE CHILD COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AND INOCCENT BY STANDERS AS WELL….SAD THAT A DAD WOULD DO THIS.

NOW THE MOTHER HAS PROOF TO SHOW A JUDGE THAT HIS FATHER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE. EVEN IF HES NOT CONVICTED OF THOSE CHARGES WHICH WE ALL KNOW IS LIKELY NOT TO HAPPEN BASED UPON THE JUDICAL SYSTEM. BUT SHE CAN ALWAYS ARGUE THAT HER CHILD COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BECAUSE OF THERE BEHAVIOR. ITS SAD THAT A FATHER WOULD DO THAT TO HIS CHILD. NOTICE I SAY FATHER IT TAKES A MAN TO BE A DAD AND HES CLEARLY NOT A DAD. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH THE MOTHER AND HER CHILD.

Those of you reading this can only imagine the nightmare that I am living.  I am the mother of the 10 year old that was driving.  My son was on a court ordered weekend visitation of which I tried to get supervised when we set up visitation 5 years ago but was laughed at by the judge because I had no “physical” proof of the alcohol or drug use but his father and girlfriend.  I almost lost my son because of the negligent behavior of a “responsible adult”.  No thanks to the court system.  So I won’t be suprised if the girlfriend gets her children back even though she shouldn’t ever be allowed to even see them.

I agree with rrunion, the shirt says it all. But what is truly sad, is that those children were placed in that position in the first place. There could have been other people on the road who could have been killed or severely injured. Wonder why children have such a hard life, their parents can’t be adults, so the child has to be the mom, the dad, and the care giver… I think there should be lots of consideration prior to the children even be a thought to being placed back in the house…

This is so “SAD” that parents would allow this to happen…and the shirt says it all on the so called “DAD”. The kids have to suffer…shouldnt be allowed to have them back

I think his shirt says it all.
