The 2009 Bridal Afaire is being produced in conjunction with Master Bridal Consultant & Event Planner Charlotte Powers Sutherland with Joy & Company. In advance of the Bridal Afaire event, each week Charlotte will answer a few of your questions here. Have a question? Send it to us here and check back to see if Charlotte has chosen yours as our weekly question. When planning a wedding, how important is it to consider the time of year for a ceremony?
The time of year is important and should be considered as weather could be a factor and the season reflected.
Tradition used to say that the bride plans most everything, but my fiance’ and his family want to be involved. What’s the best way to bring them into the mix and still preserve tradition?
The groom and his family traditionally plan and pay for the rehearsal dinner. The groom and his family should attend the consultation that depicts the formality of the wedding and reception. If the grooms family would like to help with expenses- the bar is often times provided by them.
Is it ok to choose a color other than white for a wedding dress?
It is okay to choose a wedding gown that is not white. Silk and natural fibers are not bleached and other colors such as soft pink and ivory may be the best choice for the brides skin tone.
We’re thinking about eloping to get married. Are there any etiquette rules to follow for notifying family?
If you are thinking of eloping the parents and family should be the first to know. I would tell them in person if possible.
I just got engaged and now get to plan the big day! How much should I budget?
You should budget what you want or have to spend. Make your plans accordingly.
