Johnson City, Tennessee, once known as "Little Chicago" (for its bootlegging activity) has become the traditional destination for regional blues fans on the last weekend in April. The Little Chicago Blues Festival at The Down Home features twelve acts performing over three nights. Wayne Winkler, WETS station director says, "This area is not well-known for its blues tradition, but there were actually several prominent blues and R&B performers who were born and raised within 100 miles of Johnson City, including Brownie McGhee; Roy Hall, composer of "Whole Lotta Shakin'', Wallace Coleman, and Clifford Curry." Even more importantly, is that the blues tradition is alive and well among regional musicians. "This area has a strong musical heritage, and the blues has always been an important part of that. You can hear the blues influence in most of Bill Monroe's bluegrass records, for example."
LCBF takes place at one of the Southeast's finest listening rooms, The Down Home.
