Blue Highway to headline fundraiser for FTHRA
First Tennessee Human Resource Agency's Adult Day Services will host a spring bluegrass concert April 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Seeger Chapel on the campus of Milligan College.
Blue Highway, Appalachian Trail and the ETSU Bluegrass Band featuring Raymond McClain will perform.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 423.928.8855.
“This is an exciting event, and we hope to raise awareness about our program, Adult Day Services, and raise some much-needed funds and have a great night of down home music,” Pam Gardner, ADS program director, said in a news release.
Blue Highway is one of the most influential groups in contemporary bluegrass. The band has released six acclaimed albums, received a Grammy nomination, topped the Bluegrass Unlimited radio charts, won a Dove Award and an astonishing 11 International Bluegrass Music Association awards, individually and collectively.
Appalachian Trail and ETSU Bluegrass Band are local bands with a widespread fan base. Appalachian Trail was formed in 1984 and has helped blaze new trails on the bluegrass front. ETSU Bluegrass Band features some of the best young talent from all over the world who come to East Tennessee to study bluegrass music.
Adult Day Services is a program of personalized care for adults who are physically, socially, emotionally and mentally challenged or frail due to advanced age.
ADS helps older people maintain their independence by providing stimulating activities, including daily exercise and craft projects. ADS also gives family caregivers a break from their daily caregiving routine, allows them to shop, pay bills, seek medical attention for themselves or simply rest from their ongoing caregiving duties.
This program provides its clients the ability to live at home where they prefer to be. The stimulating activities increase clients' self worth and help their caregivers by providing them with time and opportunity to maintain their own lives.
Adult Day Services hopes to raise enough funds through this fundraiser to keep its personalized care at a reasonable cost for their clients and their families and to replace a transportation van.
The program serves families from six counties of East Tennessee, including Carter, Greene, Sullivan, Washington and Unicoi.
ADS provides wheelchair accessible transportation as well. Nutritious breakfast, snacks and lunch are also provided each day.
