Sycamore Shoals to host “Clothing, Weapons, and Equipment of the Typical Overmountain Man”

Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area presents "The Clothing, Weapons, and Equipment of the Typical Overmountain Man," a special presentation by Jason Davis, Sunday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m.

This program will be fun for everyone. Kids, parents, and grandparents will enjoy: 

  • A demonstration of the flintlock rifle!
  • How flint and steel was used to make a fire!
  • Historically accurate clothing of the Overmountain Man!
  • Original and reproduction equipment used in the eighteenth century!

Davis is studying recreation at East Tennessee State University and is currently working on an internship at Sycamore Shoals. He developed the program for a class at ETSU. A native of Cumberland County, Tenn., he now lives in Elizabethton. His interests include music, outdoor sports, and history.
