The Civic Chorale, the region’s leading independent choir, will hold auditions for new members on Thursday, January 15 in the choir room of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City, where the group rehearses.  In February, the Chorale presents a broad range of music from Broadway to Barbershop to folksongs, to 20th-century settings of Renaissance poetry.  The Chorale’s concerts in May will be a festival of choral works by renowned British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, including the Mass in G minor, folksong arrangements, and the secular cantata:  “In Windsor Forest.”

The Chorale is especially interested in altos, low basses and tenors.  Singers with good sight reading skills who love choral music should contact the conductor, David Hendricksen, at (423) 247-1147 or by email at in order to schedule an individual audition appointment time for January 15.  Auditions are private and short (about 15 minutes), and involve singing a familiar piece, sight reading, and some simple vocal exercises to check pitch and dynamic range, control of vibrato and general vocal production.

For further information about the Chorale or the audition process, visit the Chorale’s Web site or contact the conductor.
