Phone scam targets Regions Bank customers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - There's a telephone and Internet scam targeting people who have accounts with Regions Bank.
Officials of Birmingham, Alabama-based Regions say customers in Tennessee, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi have been getting automated telephone calls, telling them their accounts have expired and directing them to an Internet site that looks like the bank's site.
There, clients are asked to verify their existing online credentials -- especially their username and password.
Regions cautions it never asks customers online or on the telephone for their online information.
The bank asks that any of its customers having questions call 1-800-REGIONS.
FBI cyber crime specialists say its a new twist on an ongoing scam.
