Lowe takes first-round lead at ETA

Richard Lowe’s 65 gave him a one-shot lead over former champion Bryan Sangrid after the first round of the 15th annual East Tennessee Amateur at Elizabethton Golf Course, which kicked off on Friday.

Last year’s champion Brad Robinson struggled to a 74 and is nine shots back of the lead.

Former Virginia High golfer David Talley is tied with Robinson in 27th place. Tennessee High golfers Greg and Glen Hanson fired an 82 and an 83, respectively.

2008 Glenrochie Invitational champion Bill Hardin shot a 3-under 69, and is currently in fifth, while 2009 Glenrochie champion Joe Meade withdrew from the event.

Play resumes Saturday and will conclude on Sunday.
