Glad you posted this—It is quite a story and I agree BHC is missing a great story
and a super team. I would not know a thing about this if you had not posted!
Thank you.
Just wondering…have you forgotten the Clintwood Green Wave? There’s something going on over here in the coalfields! A first, two (2) Meade brothers playing with a history of great football playing relatives a mile long! 3 retired jerseys and state records from the 70’s still standing???? Remember John & Tim McFall…cousins of the Meade brothers. Doug Mullins’ jersey retired in the 50’s, their great-uncle. Not to mention cousin Steve Fleming who went on to play for Wake Forest Univ. And what about their grandfather, Coach Bob Meade, whose #11 jersey was retired in the 60’s. Gavan Meade is now wearing the #11 at the request of Coach Meade. Their uncle Blake Fleming played on the ‘78 state winning title team along with Tim McFall! Their Mother, Cristal Reynolds Meade, was a track star at Pound in the ‘80’s! How can you miss a story like this! Trey is the fastest runner in the region D. Opponents won’t even kick the ball to him. #5 Trey is the 5th Meade to serve the GW as QB! Along with all of this history, Gavan went to the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition in Washington, DC representing the whole area! Trey made it to the finals in the Pitch, Hit, and Run competition when he was younger and shagged balls during the Home Run Derby! Trey, a Jr., is also Valedictorian of his class right now. Yes, I am a relative of these 2 fine young men but even if you don’t pick up this story, let’s here more about the Wave. The depth this team has is unreal. The speed is amazing. Most of these boys will be back next year too. Will you give us some coverage then?
