GIRLS


Coeburn 55, St. Paul 31
Lindsay Lawson led the Blue Knights to a Cumberland District victory over the Deacons with 13 points and 12 rebounds on Tuesday night at Coeburn High School.
Samantha Perry also added 13 points for Coeburn (5-3, 2-1 Cumberland).

Grundy 58, Richlands 52
Kasey Bowman’s team-high 18 points led visiting Grundy past Richlands in a Southwest District match up on Tuesday night.
Katie Lindsey scored a game-high 21 points in the Blues’ loss, the team’s eighth-straight loss to open the season.

Chilhowie 40, Patrick Henry 39
Lynsey Taylor and Krystal Patton scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, as the Lady Warriors slid past the Lady Rebels in a Hogoheegee District game on Tuesday night.
Heather Thomas (13 points) and Cadence Wilmoth (12 points) each scored in double-figures in a losing effort.

Haysi 63, Hurley 39
Haysi stopped Hurley for a BDD victory, and Holly Hiden and Julia Spangler both scored 10 points a piece in the win.
Tara Hall led the Rebels with 13 points in the loss. Ashley Daugherty added 11.

John Battle 46, Holston 31
Brittni Altmann scored 14 points for the Trojans (6-5), and the Holston girls continued their lengthy, losing streak (0-10), as John Battle posted a 46-31 non-district win over the Cavaliers on Tuesday night.
Mary Hayden had 9 points for Holston, and Faith Richie added 7.

Council 44, Twin Valley 39
Haley Arrington scored 17 points, while Dakota Bostic added four steals and keyed an 11-3 run to open the fourth quarter as Council collected a Black Diamond District road win.
Council (9-2) trailed by one entering the fourth quarter. Twin Valley (5-4) was led by Sarah Mullins’ 17 points.

Rye Cove 65, Thomas Walker 48
The Lady Eagles remained perfect in Cumberland District play by throttling the Lady Pioneers on the road on Tuesday.
Rye Cove’s Shasta Edwards led all scorers with 24 points.

Ervinton 53, Twin Springs 45
Kelly Rasnick and Chelsea Hill each scored 13 points as Ervinton earned a Cumberland District road win.
Tamara Campbell had a game-high 20 points to lead Twin Springs.

BOYS


Graham 51, Marion 45
The G-Men got off to a quick start and held on for a Southwest District win at Marion.
Jason Palmer led all scorers with 21 points for Graham, which jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first quarter.
Brock Hanna and Gavin Roe each scored 10 points for Marion, which got no closer than six points in the second half.

Coeburn 61, St. Paul 59
Coeburn withstood a St. Paul comeback in the final minutes of the game to run its Cumberland District record to 3-0.
The Blue Knights (8-4) got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Andrew Pate, 15 points and eight assists from Andrew Adkins and 11 points and 10 rebounds from Phillip Riner.
St. Paul got a game-high 22 points from Tyler Phillips and 17 more from Cory Ellis.

Powell Valley 59, Castlewood 56
Jordan Martin and Sam Vaughn each scored 17 points as Powell Valley knocked off previously unbeaten Castlewood.
The Vikings (5-3) built a 21-20 halftime lead and held on in the final 16 minutes for the win. Tyler Garrison contributed 15 points in the victory.
Castlewood (8-1) was led by Zach Bush’s 21 points. Ruben Rasnick (12 points) and Ryan Meade (11 points) also reached double figures for the Blue Devils. Castlewood faces another tough task tonight with a matchup against Russell County foe Lebanon.

Tri-Cities Christian 51, Mountain Empire Baptist 11
Benji Nunn’s 14 points led the Eagles past Mountain Empire Baptist on Monday night.
Robbie Cross had seven assists for TCC, before the game was called after the third quarter due to condensation on the court.

Hurley 55, Haysi 43
Tyler Cooper scored 22 points, and led Hurley to a Black Diamond District win over Haysi.
Austin Cooper had 13 points for the Rebels (4-5), and Larry Burkes added 11.
Dannon O’Quinn scored 20 points in Haysi’s loss.

Honaker 59, J.J. Kelly 53, OT
Cory Brown scored 20 points, Justin Hall added 14, Clark Dye contributed 11, and Honaker grabbed a thrilling non-district overtime win over the Indians on Tuesday night.
Honaker is now 2-8 overall.
Matthew Dotson led for J.J. Kelly with 14 points, and Aaron Clark scored 3 three-pointers in the loss. Joseph Collins added 12 points also.

Twin Valley 71, Council 64
Hunter Simpson scored 16 points and hit six free throws in the final 28 seconds as Twin Valley held off Council for a Black Diamond District win.
Council (6-6) led by as many as six points in the first half, before Twin Valley (8-3) rallied and built a nine-point lead in the second half.
Garrett Horne also scored 16 points in the win, while Josh Smith (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Adam Keen (12 points) also contributed to the win.
Otto Fletcher had 16 points and 19 rebounds for Council, while Travis Viers also finished with 16 points in the loss.

George Wythe 86, Rural Retreat 48
Five different Maroons (6-5) scored in double figures as George Wythe cruised past Rural Retreat in a Hogoheegee District game.
Brett Grimes and Tristan Boysaw led all Maroon scorers with 16 each, while Robert Herndon (13), Kenneth Waugh (10) and Will Sawyers (13) all scored in double figures. 

Grundy 60, Richlands 58
A furious fourth-quarter Blue Tornado comeback came up just short, as Richlands (3-5, 2-2) fell to Grundy in a Southwest District game.
Grundy’s Derrick Hess led all scorers with 19 points, while Richlands’ Rick Lawrence scored 17 in a losing effort.

Volunteer 51, Daniel Boone 48
Aaron Bennett scored 19 points to lead Volunteer past Daniel Boone in a Big Nine Conference game.
Nick Jones scored a game-high 21 points for the Trailblazers (7-10) in a losing effort.

Lee High 74, J.I. Burton 67
Scotty Woliver had 23 points and 12 rebounds as Lee High downed non-district foe J.I. Burton.
Craig Copeland added 15 points and eight rebounds for Lee. The Generals opened up a 33-23 halftime lead.
Jaycob Coleman had another big game for Burton, finishing with 25 points, 13 rebounds and four steals.

Chilhowie 54, Patrick Henry 51
Tuff Williams’ game-high 17 points led the Warriors to a Hogoheegee District victory. Rhett Sturgil added 12 points for Chilhowie, who shot 16 of 27 from the free-throw line.
Dakota Smith’s team-high 15 points topped the Rebels (3-6, 0-1), while Johnny Thompson contributed 13 points.

Twin Springs 52, Ervinton 30
Kris Jordan tossed in 14 points and Twin Springs jumped out to a 22-5 halftime lead in topping Cumberland District foe Ervinton.
Logan McCowan (14 points) and Lee Turner (10 points) led the way for Ervinton.
