Lawsuit Seeks To Stop Tennessee Guns In Bars Law

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A lawsuit has been filed to stop a law that allows handguns to be carried in Tennessee bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.
The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Davidson County Chancery Court by a restaurant owner and nine restaurant workers.
It seeks a temporary restraining order and permanent injunction to stop the law from taking effect on July 14.
Plaintiffs say the law is unconstitutional and an unlawful public nuisance that threatens the safety of the public.
Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen vetoed the measure in May, but the Tennessee General Assembly voted last month to override the veto.

Amen.

All the “bar” ( for which there is no legal definition of in TN law, by the way ) has to do is post a notice in compliance with the current state handgun law.

Instead, they chose to file a lawsuit, hoping to get the law set aside.

WHY ?

Because they don’t WANT to post their door with a “No Weapons” sign…..that might PO some customers and cause them to think “if they don’t trust me with a weapon, perhaps I should take my business elsewhere”...and cost them business…..so, instead, they will try the weasel method.

Bottom line, this has very little to do with safety and more to do with a liberal business owner who is too worried about loosing a buck to simply be honest.

Here we go again, the liberals wanting to try to stop this bill. The business owners have the right to post notices that weapons are not to be carried in their establishment just as the gun owners have the right to carry. Obviously the citizens of Tennessee wanted this bill to become law or the veto override wouldnt have taken place. The media has talked negatively about this law by making comments like “packing heat in bars”. This is so immature and unprofessional! The gun owners are not the bad guys! Leave this alone already and let the law to go into effect in 2 weeks. This small mockery lawsuit will not stop a tireless effort by the GOP and the gun owners that allowed this bill to pass the legsilative process.
