Writer urges others to support Terry Frye
Citizens of Bristol, Va., let me encourage you to re-elect Terry Frye as Commissioner of Revenue on Nov. 3.
Mr. Frye is by far the most qualified candidate for this position, as he has served as commissioner for the past eight years. He is a certified Master Commissioner of Revenue, certified by the University of Virginia.
To be a Master Commissioner, one must go through many months of training and education. Terry Frye as continually attended classes, and taken and passed required exams to be Master Commissioner. This is not an honorary title, but one that is earned. He was elected by his peers as vice president of the Virginia Commissioners Association and in the near future will serve as president of the Virginia Commissioners Association. This would be an honor for the city of Bristol, Va.
As chairman of the committee that went after out-of-state contractors that were not paying their taxes, he was instrumental in bringing back $15 million in tax money.
Terry has a vested interest in the city. He serves on the boards of the United Way, Lions Club and the Crisis Center. He has children in Virginia High School and Virginia Middle School, serving as treasurer of the Band Boosters for the last five years.
It is human nature sometimes to suggest that an opponent might not be doing the job to which they were elected. These assumptions are made by persons who are not qualified to make such a statement. I feel that I am qualified to make a clarification concerning Terry Frye. As a former Deputy Commissioner of Revenue who worked closely with Mr. Frye, I can sincerely and truthfully say he is a good person with great concern for the city of Bristol. He is a good boss who cares for his employees and supports them in each endeavor of their persona life. He has the knowledge and experience required to continue having the commissioner’s office efficient, effective and successful in its required purpose.
If you want a commissioner who knows what he is doing, vote for Terry Frye on Nov. 3. If you want a suit or tie, vote for his opponent.
