Writer Backs Joe Straten In Taylor District

In response to the informative article recently discussing the candidates for Board of Supervisors, I have a few remarks about an outstanding candidate. His name is Joe Straten and he is running in the Taylor District.
I serve with Joe in the volunteer group, Employers in Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) and know him to be a dedicated, diligent worker. His 20-plus years of military service and his experience with industry have given him a balanced perspective and an interest in improving Washington County. I know that he will concentrate on bringing jobs and progress to our county, by encouraging competition and fostering an environment favorable to new business. My strong belief is that we need fresh ideas to plan for our future!

Don:
Your absolutely correct when you say Joe has a balanced perspective and an interest in improving Washington County. He was dead on when he said we should have done more to bring the Ethanol plant here. McCrady said it was speculative technology, Mumpower said it was health hazard and didn’t want trucks in her district. Now two days in row we find that the Ethanol plant was being considered in Bristol, Tn and then work is going ahead. Yes 100+ jobs at an average of $42,000.00. Per the reporter read tomorrows (Friday) paper for more information. And both of them also voted against the Travel Center. Voters pay attention, we need Straten, Smith and Peters on the board, call everyone you know to vote!
