Reader Rebuts Letter, Suggests Writer Make Changes
I am curious why Phillip K. Cooper’s letter to the editor did not carry with it his normal signature as “Reverend.” Having regularly read many of Rev. Cooper’s articles, placed in the Clinch Valley Times and the Lebanon News, no mention was made of his clerical title as he lambasted President Obama’s call for “change,” and lamented the “change” in the Cooper financial future. I find it incredulous that our new president could be single-handedly blamed for Cooper’s predicament.
My predicament has not changed. Grocery prices are up, but that is no change from my pre-Obama life. Grow a garden, buy a milk cow, raise a hog. Gas used to be less than a dollar a gallon, but under every pre-Obama administration the cost has continued to soar. Walk or purchase a horse.
I am not gullible, Rev. Cooper, far from it. My vote in last November’s election was for Obama. The “change” you call the “gullibility” of all Obama voters was long in coming, and will take time to come to fruition. Should you find yourself in lack before things grow better, you are welcome to sit at my table and share soup beans, corn bread, sun-ripened tomatoes, green onions, iced tea and a homemade cherry cobbler for dessert.
Meanwhile, I will exhort you, as you have so often done the citizens of Southwest Virginia. I Timothy 2:1- “I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men; for kings and those in authority [Obama]. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

kona-
You know I don’t follow either Party, nor the media people you reference- we’ve been through this before.
Actually, you are the one who just Parrots the liberal websites rather than looking at the truth & calling things as they are.
You are so ridiculous. Quit smokin’ that stuff & form your own opinion- maybe an original one?
Lest, another Bill no one has read before they vote? Yes, probably.
Oh Captain, my Captain….what part of ECON 101 do you not understand? Deficit spending = Spending $$$ you ain’t got. And, oh yeah, there’s also the part about the 10% of the workforce that ain’t got no job, neither—-a low estimate, not counting those that gave up looking already. But actually a helluva lot more than the 8% King Obama said we’d see if we didn’t get that Porkulous-1100-Page-Fat-Fest passed, that nobody bothered to read. Where, my friend, will the money come from? Oh yeah. I forgot. The Fed can just print up some more to go around.
And you actually trust them with another heftier behemoth that they can’t be troubled to peruse? Have YOU read it?
Ever run a business? I didn’t think so. I have now experienced the closing of TWO once-profitable businesses, thanks entirely to Uncle Sam…the last one profitable for 12 of 14 years, prior to Medicare Part D…(thanks to Bush, for that one.) When the state became my biggest customer, they also had the distinction of being the slowest to pay, death blow to the cash flow. Hey, I got an idea….let’s have them run all of Healthcare!!
Wake up and smell the coffee, honey. Better yet, join us “teabagging rednecks” (the liberals are so generous in their terms of endearment) this Saturday for Tea…Party at 10AM, Sugar Hollow Park. Another one on Monday the 6th at 4PM. Hmmm….looks like there’s a movement brewing!

Kona, I don’t think I’ll be moving anytime soon. I’ll just ignore the whiners and victims. I can do that pretty well.
“I don’t want them to care about me, matter fact I’d prefer they just left me alone.“
Well, you can always move to another country, Russ. ![]()
Once again, or should I say as usual, commonsenless misinforms and lies and twists and parrots Beck, Limpballs, Savage and all the other clowns he worships.
The truth, that is, everything commonsensless left out of his blather can be found here…
Read it all and it’s easy to see the Republican lies as they’re presented in the future.
CJANE;
What in the world is wrong with you—
Pvt. Kona said the other day that you “have to spend money to make money”. Isn’t that so?
And, wasn’t that the philosophy of the California (Mexifornia) Legislature 3 or 4 yrs. ago when they had a budget surplus?
My oh my, IT SURE WORKED FOR THEM, now didn’t it????? PORK, PORK, PORK, in time the fat pig will squeal big time.
Ms. Necessary-Gibson,
While your repast sounds delectable, the day I thank God for King Obama is the day I slit my own throat.
The king you serve has now managed, in a few short months, to almost QUADRUPLE our national debt….Our interest payment to service our $11,000,000,000,000 debt now stands at $26 Billion—PER MONTH. That’s more than $300 Billion a year to our new best friend, China.
By 2019, annual interest payment will be up to $806 Billion. Even if we taxed profits on the righ or those greedy corporations at 100%, we wouldn’t even have enuf to pay ONE THIRD of the annual interest payment.
Your president announced that his 2009 budget was projected to produce a $1,700,000,000,000 deficit—In the time it takes you to read this paragraph, our government will have spent more than what most Americans make IN MORE THAN 20 YEARS OF WORK.
Got any kids? This amounts to child abuse. Skateboard parks? Tattoo removal? I can hear them thanking us now, for laying this unsustainable, impossible curse on our country. Is this the way you run your household? It doesn’t sound like it to me…why do you think we should have a different set of rules for running the country?
Better start your hog breeding program now, before we get to Universal Healthcare. Your king is just getting warmed up.
Carbon Trade Estimates and naive fools—
Actually, if you really understood what Cap & Trade really is, you’d realize that the low estimates the Dems are touting are nothing more than propaganda for naive fools.
Under Cap & Trade, the govt. tells every emitting company whether they need to buy carbon credits from the govt. to continue their business. Then the auction begins and the price is set later. So, Boucher’s $175 is ridiculous.
All the govt. is doing is setting themselves up as the broker and they will also have the ability to ratchet emissions totals down the road to lower levels if the system doesn’t provide enough money for the revenue they want.
IT’S A TAX- just like any other source of Govt. revenue- call it a license, call it a fee, call it anything you like, but in the end; anything that produces revenue to the government is nothing BUT a TAX. PERIOD!
And, where does the buck stop? ...Obviously, with the guy who is paying for something. If you’re paying for electricity, you get hit by the utility. If you buy a car, you get hit by the auto company, the steel company, the vinyl producer, the plastic producer, the glass producer, etc.
Regardless, you’ll be paying the bill. Doesn’t matter whether you’re a Dem. a Repub. an independent, libertarian, or even a tax evader- you’ll be paying.
Couple Cap & Trade with our deficits which will only cause inflation, and you guessed it- they’ll blame all the higher costs of everything on inflation and the company, or business, or industry that is producing our GNP.
And he has the audacity to call Cap & Trade a JOBS BILL- BULL!
Obama & Pelosi are running this country into ruin and Boucher- well, forget it. He doesn’t have to run for another 4 Yrs and he is nothing more than a Party Puppet. He & BO came to Lebanon and talked about supporting coal- HA! and you all swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.
Hey! Even the guy selling water pipes (AHEM!) is going to have to gouge you…
I just read the post made by DanielJones and he was trying to make a point by quoting the Bible. He mentioned that he liked “I Timothy is a nice verse, but I am more partial to Prophets”. Now I am sure he made a typo and meant Proverbs. The verses he quotes does not mean what he was trying to prove. Read the whole book and you will see that you are being instructed to stay away from “loose” women and be true to your wife. I’ll bet the Gov. of SC could understand these verses.
I tried to post the verses, but the site won’t accept some of the words in the verse. Get your Bible out and read the whole chapter 5 of Proverbs.
These verses tell us to be fair and honest in all our dealings, of course I realize a Republican would have a hard time understanding that.
Seawing, I didn’t see the speech, but my son told me about it. I’ve heard his spiel regarding the cap and trade legislation previously. He’s basically a lackey for Nancy Pelosi, which means that California has an extra vote.
Thirty-one thousand plus scientist signed a petition stating that carbon emissions have very little if any effect on climate change. Just yesterday, and I don’t know if it’s true or not, they said the planet had been cooling for the past eleven years. Why do you think they are now using climate change rather than global warming?
It’s all about ending the use of fossil fuels. Does anyone really believe that, if windmills, and solar panels, were a reliable source of energy the power companys wouldn’t do it. Why would they buy coal and natural gas, when all they have to do is put up a windmill. It just doesn’t make sense.
These things are not going to come about because the politicians mandate them. They’ll come about out of necessity, and it may not even be windmills, solar panels, or nuclear. It may be something else, who knows.
In the mean, we need to produce our own oil, natural gas, and coal.
