Not For Grundy Alone

Anyone who read the tremendous, two-page article about Grundy, Va., should understand that the comment about “$250,000 having been spent for every man, woman and child” is not exactly a correct assessment. 

The town of Grundy serves all of Buchanan County. Yes, the town has 1,000 people in the “town limits,” but it serves thousands more who live from a few seconds to 30 minutes away. So, the money spent on the project takes care of a massive population, including Vansant, Deel, Patterson, Dismal, Oakwood, Garden, Big Rock, Harman, Slate Creek, Hurley, Council, Whitewood, Breaks, Prater, Royal City and more. 

I feel the project is worthwhile and much less expensive per person than the article made it appear. The correct assessment should be that the project will be completed with about $15,000 having been spent for every man, woman and child in the greater Grundy area.

One would have to live through a flood, such as the one my family lived through in 1977, to understand how needed this project is for the people who choose to live there and strive for a prosperous and content life.
