A Plea For Help Ignored
It has been interesting to read to the letters to the editor about David Davis and his support of veterans.
Last year, an elderly lady that I know well needed help for her brother, a World War II veteran and Bronze Star winner. He was in the VA Medical Center for surgery. One night, he must have fallen out of bed. Although he was revived, he never came out of a coma.
A VA social worker called his sister, wanting her to pull the plug or transfer him to a nursing home. She would do neither. I contacted Davis’ office to ask for help. However, the decision had been made to transfer him to a nursing home in Ohio to save the VA money.
He died 10 days after the transfer. The death certificate indicated he died of malnutrition, dehydration and heart failure. The VA would pay nothing to bring his body back to Johnson City, so his sister had to pay to bring his body back for burial. Davis knew what was going on, but did nothing to help.
Davis may have done a few things for veterans, but when it comes to the hard stuff, he hasn’t the fortitude. Congressmen Reece, Quillen and Jenkins would have used their office to make sure this decorated WWII veteran’s welfare was accommodated.
Could it be that I’m not a supporter of Davis, so he ignored my request?
