Mackenzie Draine was named as the News Channel 11 Connects/Food City Student of The Week. She’s a senior at Volunteer High School in Hawkins County. Mackenzie played volleyball, basketball and softball all four years of high school. She’s also one of the top students in her class, but there’s on thing that makes Mackenzie stand out from the rest of her classmates. The 18 year old hasn’t missed a day of school during the past 12 years.
“It’s a big thing and I feel accomplished knowing that I have never missed a day my whole life,“ Draine said.
Mackenzie is going to King College in the fall where she’ll major in biology and then go into pre-med. She wants to become an obstetrician.
“It’s just something that I’m real interested in. I feel that that’s an awesome thing bringing a child into this world and I just want to be a part of it,“ said Draine.
Mackenzie likes to help others and plans to volunteer with several organizations in the area. She also appreciates the people who have helped her reach her goals over the years, especially her family.
“I feel that I am independent, but my parents have done a lot for me,“ Draine said.
