GRAY, Tenn.-Sam’s Club employee Charles Luchini enjoys giving back to the community and helping others. The food Luchini packed inside cardboard boxes on Wednesday will help those struggling to put food on the table during a bad economy.

“What we’re doing is packing up six packs of food in each box and then it will be loaded on the truck to go out to the needy,“ said Luchini.

Wal-Mart announced on Wednesday its partnership with the nation’s largest hunger relief charity, Feeding America.

The partnership will bring more food to the Second Harvest Food Bank in Gray.

“It’s very important for Wal-Mart to help out the communities and support our neighborhoods,“ said Wal-Mart market manager Jon Tunnell.

Luchini’s employer, Sam’s Club has been donating since 2007 but with the spiraling economy the partnership with Wal-Mart comes at a much needed time for the food bank.

“January we set a record distribution amount over 500,000 pounds of food that went out,“ said Second Harvest Food Bank executive director Rhonda Chafin.

In addition Wal-Mart also donated a 20 foot refrigerated truck to help deliver the food to local agencies.

“We can pick that food up on a regular basis at their stores,“ said Chafin.

This means more food for more families in need. “The partnership between Wal-Mart and Sam’s will mean an additional 500,000 pounds of food each year to second harvest food bank,“ Chafin said.

This food will be distributed to more than 200 community agencies.

Luchini feels good knowing his efforts will help put food on the table for someone in need.  He just hopes others will follow his lead.

“It’s better to give than to receive and if everybody done that the world would be a better place,“ said Luchini.
