Arrests come two just two days after the Unicoi County Veterans Memorial Park is vandalized but citizens are still wondering why it was done in the first place.

Two juvenal males that were not from this area are under arrest for vandalizing the memorial park. The flags they burned have been replaced and most of the spray paint they used has been cleaned off both in the park and at nearby Gentry Field.

The Erwin Police Department says the two boys are denying their involvement but they feel sure they have the right culprits.

Detective Tony Buchanan credits a very concerned community and an anonymous tip for the arrests.

I agree with Huskins on the punishment for these two boys.  It don’t really matter “who” they are, what matters is they done the damage, and the disrespect, and they should be punished for it.  As said earlier, a slap on the wrist will not do it for these vandals,  they need hard core punishment for what they did.  I honestly think a boot camp and from there, put them IN the military to learn to earn respect for the veterans, our soldiers and their families. The soldiers today will not look lightly at these 2 for what they did to the park as well as burning the flags.  They deserve any harsh punishment that they get.
