Police confiscated more than $100,000 and made two arrests, but would not release many details surrounding the incident.  They said it was still under investigation.

Investigators did say the two men are suspected of being drug dealers.

During a press conference today, police said they believed the suspects were traveling to New York to make a drug buy, but were pulled over in Kingsport for a minor traffic offense.

Police said they found the cash in a backpack inside the car, along with a small amount of cocaine.

The Drug Enforcement Agency is helping with the investigation, and Kingsport Police said the suspects could face charges in more than one state.

I agree that the KPD did a good job of getting these individuals off of the street. Now it is up to the courts. Good job again KPD!!!!!

nuffsaid——it was off the subject because of the same old contributor,,,dadw5boys. it doesn;t matter the story,he will not stay on the subject. nothing new!
capt——it went from a minor traffic offense to a search,,by suspension. the parties involved obviously consented to a search. good for the Kingsport P.D.

The story suggests to the public that the Kingsport Police won a major victory in the fight against drugs in my area.  Fast forward two years.  They’re out of jail.  Their probation officers tests them regularly for drug use. Yet, they’re back to dealing in the same drugs! Only this time they use the phrase, “I do not consent to a search.“  I remember this story from last year… and the year before that.

smile Well it seems locals here are always getting the shaft.
I have seen them get new businesses moveing here to lower the per hour pay from $10 or $12 and hour to miniumn wage over lunch. Remember Fingerhut? They wanted to pay $12 to $15 an hour till the had lunch with the “BOYS”.
Some new busnesses are discrouaged from moving here because they would force existing businesses to compete from top employees.
We use to be a family around here but the carpetbaggers move in suddenly it is us against them.

WELL HERE IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF OPEN CONTAINERS ALLOWED IN THIS AREA THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RACE.

THE BLUE PLUM FESTIVAL IN JOHNSON CITY (HELD IN JUNE EVERY YEAR NOW) ALLOWS DRINKING ON THE STREETS AND YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR A BRACLET TO BE ABLE TO DRINK ON THE STREETS.  THERE IS ALSO ILLEGAL DRUG ACTIVITY ON THE STREETS IN THE WIDE OPEN DURING THAT EVENT ALSO.  I HAVE WITNESSED IT MYSELF.

PROHIBITION HAS BEEN TRIED AND FAILED!

:D

Way to hijack a thread, Dad 5.

Now, how did a “minor traffic offense” turn into a search of the vehicle?

More info is required.

THE LADY GETTING HIT WAS OUT OF THE LINE OF SIGHT FOR THE DRIVER.  THIS IS NO DIFFERENT THEN IF IT HAPPENED AT THE FAIR OR IF IT WAS A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER HITTING A KID IN FRONT OF THEM.  YOU CAN’T SEE AND IT WAS AN ACCIDENT.  I GUESS IT IS THE RACES FAULT THAT A WOMEN FROM ERWIN WAS CAMPING IN BRISTOL AND HAPPENED TO DIE IN THE CAMPER THERE FROM NATURAL CAUSES…I DON’T THINK SO.

I don’t know how this got off the theme of drug arrests to a discussion on drugs, (and I did read the whole article), but since it has, I would like to voice my thoughts here also. Why not make take beer out of the equation and outlaw all drinking at the track? Either that or have a large enough facility to house all those who break the law during the race weekends. Or make it legal for the citizens of this area to also walk around with open containers of beer wherever they want and then get in their vehicles and drive wherever they want after consumption of alcoholic beverages. I don’t know what it is like in other areas that host such events, whether they encourage lawlessness also, but it would seem here that the race fans know they rule this area when they are here and take advantage of that. Even more money could be made off the race fans if they were charged and jailed. The locals here know to avoid that area when the fans are here. We drive miles out of our way to get to our businesses to work. All I hear is how much they help the economy by our fleecing of them. Thank goodness it is only two weekends out of the year. Police officers should be ashamed that they are not allowed to do their jobs as they are supposed to do.

Federal Law requires Testing so I am sure the lady in the hospital will be able to contact the drivers insurance company before is bankrupts them with all the medical bills.

Post Accident Testing—-
§382.303 Post-accident testing.

(a) As soon as practicable following an occurrence involving a commercial motor vehicle operating on a public road in commerce, each employer shall test for alcohol for each of its surviving drivers:

(a)(1) Who was performing safety-sensitive functions with respect to the vehicle, if the accident involved the loss of human life; or

(a)(2) Who receives a citation within 8 hours of the occurrence under State or local law for a moving traffic violation arising from the accident, if the accident involved:

(a)(2)(i) Bodily injury to any person who, as a result of the injury, immediately receives medical treatment away from the scene of the accident; or

Yeah we understand as long as the powers that be get what they want the laws can be applied or suspended at will.  You know the whole time I was in Vietnam I knew I was fighting for the right things.
We are sure sorry that lady got in that truck drivers way and held him up from getting in that line of tricks to drive thru town.
Hope he is ok and not harmed by running iver the lady. Would not want those racers inconvienced by us mere mortals.
