Sullivan County Deputies Investigate Vandalism At An Area High School
Sullivan Central High School administrators arrived to school Wednesday to find lockers, locks and walls vandalized.
Sullivan County investigators said sometime during the night of Thursday, May 15th and the early morning hours of Friday, May 16th, the suspects entered Sullivan Central High School where they damaged several lockers and spray-painted the walls.
Investigators added that concrete was used to vandalize several locks and lockers throughout the school.
Deputies believe the suspects got into the school by pulling open an unlocked classroom window on the front side of the school.
Four Sullivan Central students were implicated by statements and / or video evidence and were released to the custody of a parent.
Charges are pending against three adult students and one juvenile male student, all who are seniors at the high school.

Boy, who would have thought this “prank” would cause so much discussion. Most of which is ALL with false information.
“Everybody Has An Opinion. It Doesn’t Mean It Is The Truth.“
“The Horse is Dead, So Stop Beating It!!!“
hmmmmmm.
So much for trying to close a subject.
1. Cougar08….Um sorry. They did have athletic scholarships….Don’t know where you got your information from, but they did…..I’m kinda fed up with people who think they know everything….
2. True. A bad choice was made but hmmm vandalizing is vandalizing. This prank was NOT as bad as the class of 05’s prank….How much trouble were they in?
3. They did graduate. Correct. I don’t really think anyone here said they didn’t other than before the choice to let them graduate was given.
4. I’m pretty sure Sullivan Central should have a debate team. Seriously.
5. I’m done. Lets argue some more! Yeah and waste time that I’m sure alot of us don’t have. =]
Once again. Subject CLOSED.
Thank you and have a GREAT day.
Ms. Riden has probably put on one of the best graduation ceremonies this area has seen, and why did she do it? Because she CARES about us. A lot of people thinks she makes rules or is strict to make herself look good, but she actually takes the time to talk to us. She walks around the halls, during lunches, just to get to know students, and not just the good ones, but all of them. Ms. Riden has been to all of the school function activities including sports banquests, club banquests, and band competitions. She is always the first person into the school and is the last person to leave, which is usually late. I say all of this, because she has put in her time to give us a good education and then she walks in to find the school vandalized. Imagine that your the principal, would you not call the cops? That is exactly what she did. These four students should learn that in the real world, when you make a mistake, something has to happen in order to learn from it. This is a class E felony. Many seniors did not find the prank to be funny. If it was a different prank, then these students would be walking with their classmates. And to clarify, none of these students have athletic scholarships, so they can not lose it.
I am a student of class of 2010 and I think Mr. ward let alot of the students by with alot of things , I belive Mrs. Riden did what was right I think all of the boys deserved the punishment that they are getting because I really belive what the boys did was uncalled for . and yes one was on pervation and broke pervation so he may even get worse punishment but he deserves it as well of the other 3 boys ,I don’t belive Mrs.Riden was to harsh on the boys they knew right from wrong . So U go mrs. Riden !!!!!!!!
For all you have negative things to say about Ms. Riden you obviously don’t know her at all. She is strict but one of the most caring people you will ever find. I am a mother with two daughters and I would much rather my girls go to a school where the principle is involved and isn’t putting up with all the “typical pranks” than a Mr. Ward whom everyone loves because he let the student body away with more. People have become so dang mushy they are afraid of dishing out the punishment that will make these kids sit up and take notice. And for the parents that are so upset because their “boy” isn’t going to get to walk in graduation you should have been more concerned about where he was in the early morning hours that Friday! If we don’t teach these children values while they are young and that everything you do has a consequence than you are raising your future prison population.
Ms Riden you go girl!
Take responsibility!
Alright.. I think there are a few things that have been misunderstood because of false information given out by people. The boys ARE going to graduate. They won’t be allowed to walk across the stage but they WILL recieve their diplomas, as long as they are eligible. If one of them doesn’t graduate, it is not because of the administration, it is their grades.. which is their own fault.
And also.. for everyone who seems to think that this is a prank and that they shouldn’t be punished for it… Just think. The school is a building, just like your own home. If four kids broke into your home, and vandalized it, wouldnt you want something done about it.. or would you just act like nothing ever happened and pay the thousands of dollars of damage that they caused.
I am not saying that these boys are “bad-kids”.. because they arent. A bad choice was made. This was not the typical spraypainting of the outside deal.. This was a huge felony. Life is made of choices. And as we were all taught as kids, every choice has both good and bad consequences. A bad choice was made, and there should be consequences for it. The “senior prank” has never been this bad.. and even though I’m not very involved in school.. I know that if something is not done, it can only get worse. I would really hate to see that happen to our school.. cause I know it really is a great place, full of great people.
Congrats Class of 2008!
Wow guys….....I think we got our point across. TIME TO GRADUATE. =]Goodbye SCHS, Goodbye Melanie Riden, Goodbye crappy administration, GOOD BYE HIGH SCHOOL. =] Lets go home boys. Subject closed.
i think it was a very irresponsible act but they are paying for damages and thats the punishment they deserve. They worked for four years to earn the diploma and the right to walk, and for her to deprive them of that is selfish, in my opinion. Senior pranks happen everywhere. Mrs. Riden has brought with her nothing but trouble and unhappiness. I used to really enjoy coming to school. Honestly, I liked coming. Mr Ward was the most dull, boring human on earth, but he was a very caring individual and let students have certain freedoms and space. Now, its like going to prison. You breathe the wrong way and you get your head blown off. I cant stand going to school because of the things Riden has done. I wish she would just move on and give some other student body the shaft.
Well you didn’t have to be so mean about it. Geez. Sorry for upsetting you so much, CHS08. I don’t really care what you think of me—I mean I could be a guy. I could be a girl. I could be David Ward himself, who knows? I think you have memorized all of my comments even though you have misquoted me once or twice. Oh well. I suppose my job here is done. Congrats on your Cougar graduation Thursday. You have given me a new outlook on life. No more checking my e-mail! EVER! I am moving on with a new hobby. Maybe basket weaving. God Bless.
