Southwest Virginia Health Clinics Receive Stimulus
ABINGDON, Va. – More than $2 million in federal economic stimulus money will flow to four Southwest Virginia health clinics, U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher announced Tuesday.
“The federal funding from the Economic Recovery Act will improve the health care services available to residents,” Boucher said in a written news statement on the grants.
The grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems will receive $766,950 to buy new medical equipment for its clinic in Saltville. The money will be used for safety and heating upgrades, X-ray equipment and a mobile unit to make care more accessible.
Clinch River Health Services will receive $344,955 to buy equipment for a clinic in Dungannon.
Planned purchases include digital X-ray equipment, new exam tables, computers and other improvements so the clinic can begin using an electronic medical record system.
The St. Charles Health Council will receive $956,715 for improvements to clinics in St. Charles and St. Paul.
The money will be used for renovations at the two clinics as well as medical and dental equipment and updates to their medical records system.
Other stimulus grants also have been announced this year for clinics in the region. They include:
* A $295,780 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service to hire staff for clinics in Saltville, Meadowview and Bristol.
* A $50,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Agency that will be used to buy a backup generator for the clinic in Dungannon.

The pork king came through again. The trouble is when is this area going to start producing something and not be a welfare basket case?
Second, the Crap and Tax energy bill he helped pass will cripple many people in this region, so what then?
YES !! FREE MONEY !! The FED prints it, the Feds distribute it, and everybody knows we will ( nor can ) never pay it back !
Seems like there IS a free lunch after all…..until the day comes the world tires of our ability to print, and starts demanding REAL things instead of paper promises for their REAL things ( like oil ) and we see inflation destroy what little is left of the ‘dollar’. Same game plan followed by every government that has turned to the printing press to ‘create’ wealth….and the results will be no different.
Boucher brings home more stimulus money to SW VA to aid his district’s health care while providing some needed jobs. This is what we expect from our elected officials.
