The Johnson City Police Department arrested a Bristol, Virginia woman, after they say she worked as a caregviver for a local home care business and stole thousands of dollars from an elderly client.
Police arrested Ashley N. Brooks, 23, after they say an investigation revealed that she wrote four separate checks out of a 73-year-old woman’s checking account. The victim lost $80,600 as a result.
As a caregiver, Brooks worked at the woman’s home, which police say gave her access to the victim’s checkbook.
Police charged Brooks with one count of theft over $60,000, two counts of theft over $1,000 and one count of theft under $500.
Brooks is being held at the Washington County, Tennessee Detention Center on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow morning.

I think enough is enough. When I get up of the morning I have about 10 comments on this topic on my email.Everyone is just bickering back and forth. You all just need to let it go cause everyone gets what they deserve. WHAT GOES AROUND..COMES AROUND…Don’t none of you forget it. Ever which one of you that had to draw the racism card and throw it in the pile should not be allowed to get back on here. This was nothing about race. Get over it.

It seems that we have come to a point where we are in agreement on this.
I sincerely believe that if found guilty she should be punished for her crime.
However repentance, and a full account of what happened, and who was involved would make it much easier to begin to have any degree of respect.
My best to you and I hope you find peace with this.
To Wanderer, what you are saying is so true. And the question about her repenting is also true. That’s what she needs to tell the authorities, the where about of the money. She needs to give it back. And repent of what she has done.
That’s a good question. What would Jesus do?
What type of reference do we have for that. How about the money changers in the temple. What did Jesus do there?
I respect your belief and the fact that you are a Christian. I have no doubt of that.
However if you study the old testament you will find God can also be a vengful God.
Even in the new testament there are stories of him sending angels to take vengance on those that would not repent.
Has this person repented? Has she told them where the money is? Has she told if anyone else is involved.
Be careful what you wish for and study the entire Bible. Not just the parts that you find convient at the time.
WHAT WOULD JESUS DO? I didn’t say she should go free. I said justice will prevail. She should be punished, but as Jesus said, forgive. Christ is the answer. Some of you claim to be Christian, but I’m saying God will deal with her judgement day, but the law will punish her for her crime. She stole from somebody, and yes she should get time. But as of respect; it’s all the same. My son and mother got killed by my best friend and through Christ I have forgiving him and since justice was won, I can say I respect him. I respect him for doing his time and knowing why he did it. As a church goer I have learn to do as Christ ask of me. Hatred, Passing of judgement, is not the way of Christ. Hate on me all you want, but God gives me my strength. Take this however you want. Reading is fundamental.

“How can you judge her for what she has done, and knowing you have family members that have done worse”
If everyone you know has family members that have done worse, then that speaks volumes about your character.
This condition doesn’t exist in most families that I know.
If you accept crime as the norm then you are a large part of the problem.
Also, please tell me what kind of respect someone that would do this to an ederly person deserves.
It is my opinion that crimes against children and the elderly should meet with the most severe of punishments. It is the duty of society to care for those that are least able to care for themself.
I would hope that if someone else is involved that they would be caught and punished as well. However, her refusal to tell who these people are is simply another in a long list of crimes that she is commiting.
We can not say that these type of people deserve respect.
They deserve justice!
Why don’t everyone stop going back and forth with the race thing. Let this girl have her day in court.
Who know the next person in the paper may be your brother, sister, wife, husband etc….
“I don’t need it. If there was a W.E.T, yes I would watch it just like I watch VH-1.“
There will never be a WET, that would be discrimination…
I need to make a correction. That was Shawn Mullins, not Smith.
To Slavery Exists….I also made a comment about this young lady. However, I didn’t judge her by her race, but by the despicable thing she did. Did you happen to read the article about Shawn Smith killing the 2 year old child? Well, I hope he burns in he—and he’s white. As far as I’m concerned a low-life is a low-life no matter what their race is. BTW…do you know how thieves are punished in Africa? They cut off their hands.
