A woman is recovering this morning after getting injured fighting the family pit bull off her one-year-old grandchild.
It happened in Washington County, Tennessee… just south of Cherokee Road… in the 200 block of Spice Hollow Road.
That’s in the Hidden Valley Trailer Park.
The Sheriff’s Office says the grandmother “got the worst of it.“ The dog bit her several times, and she suffered more than two-dozen puncture wounds.
Her one-year-old granddaughter is okay, she escaped with one minor bite.
Animal control seized the dog, and cited the family for being behind on their vaccinations.

Please, Please, Please people know the breed before you go passing judgement on all of them. As it has been said many, many times judge the deed not the breed. We have and American Pit Bull Terrier and I know several people that own them. We live in the country and we love animals. We also have 3 other dogs a Black Lab, a Black & Tan Coonhound and a Poodle - West Highland Terrier Mix. Thank God none of our dogs have ever bitten anyone. We also have 6 cats. And 4 of the 6 are always hissing and smacking the APBT. We have had to pull their claws out of his face. And he has never shown any signs of aggression towards them. He is around our grandchildren and he loves them and they love him.
You should never leave a child especially a 1 year old child alone with a dog I don’t care what kind of dog or what size it is. We never left our grandchildren in the room alone with our Poodle Westie Mix.
We have no idea what caused this dog to do what it did. But I look at it this was it wasn’t the dogs fault it was the owners fault for letting it happen.
doesn’t matter, if a dog bite is reported to police it should be a news story..otherwise, the media is guilty of picking on one breed of dog for the purpose of getting people to read the story. kind of proves my point, doesn’t it? who would read a story about a poodle bite? nobody! but oh you write a story about this breed biting and bam..you have a story! Just treat all dogs fairly is all I am saying. Oh and one last thing…the term PIT BULL is a generic term. It is used to cover many breeds of dogs that fall into that one lump category. Was this dog in the story a staffie, an amstaff, a bull terrier..you see, they are given the generic name of Pit Bull.

I read that Pit Bulls are loyal, passionate,and defend their master(s) and territory very agressively. I think that improper behavior by a pet is generally, as with other household members, a lack of training and understanding on the part of the master or parent. I refer you to the following site: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/americanpitbull.htm I think you’ll agree that when a dog of this stature and power becomes agressive, it bares more serious consequences than most any other dog. This breed was originally bred to fight to the death. That sort of inate quality must be carefully monitored and contained.
No, my point is this, why just do stories on Pit Bull bites…why just one breed? Could it be the media knows it will draw readers? If you are going to report on dog bites, report on them all.
So the rational that Pit Bulls get a bum rap is that all the poodle bites are not reportedf?

So now it is being said that if you have a Pit Bull..what did you expect? Oh you people with blinders on drive me crazy. I have owned Pits for over 50 years..never had one bite, one nip, not one aggressive anything…but yet during those years a poodle has bitten me for no reason on the street..so should I then hate all poodles? What about all of Michael Vick’s fighting Pit Bulls? Have you not heard that they are now living the lives they deserved with loving families? The man who worked with those dogs has been working with Pits in mass numbers for decades and not one bite. Doesn’t say much for your snake comment. Dogs are not born mean..it takes a human to create one that is mean. And that pertains to all dog breeds.
I’m sorry to chuckle over this one, but it reminds me of the guy in Cleve., Ohio who awoke to find his 8 ft Boa was wrapped around him in a state of constriction. He nearly died.

Many dogs are bred to protect young children but many are not. I have raised various breeds of dogs for nearly 50 years. I stand by my statement that you should never leave a small child alone with a dog. Even small breeds bite.
I did not specify any one breed.Each animal has a different temperament.
