Kingsport, Tenn.—Monday night, officers with the Kingsport Police Department were led on a high speed chase in pursuit of a man who was previously charged with aggravated robbery.

Jonas Lee Lefler, 24, of 577 Big Ridge Road, Kingsport, was wanted by the Kingsport Police when they received a tip that he was in the Wilcox Court area driving a silver Mercury Marquis.

According to reports, when the police arrived they found Lefler outside of his vehicle. Lefler reportedly jumped into his vehicle and took off. He struck police unit 1632 and another officer left in pursuit of Lefler’s vehicle.

The two cars crashed, and Lefler was taken into custody, along with his passenger, Sherry Greene, 34, of 308 Newland Ave., Kingsport.

Police say they found a loaded .22 caliber pistol and a shotgun in the car, which they determined were stolen.

Greene was in possession of schedule IV (valium) and schedule VI (marijuana) drugs. She has been charged with simple possession and public intoxication.

Lefler was charged with an additional three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, evading arrest, possession of a gun by a convicted felon, possession of stolen property, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.

Both Lefler and Greene were arraigned in court this morning and will appear again on July 2. Lefler is still in custody on a $200,000 bond and Greene remains on a $3,000 bond.
