Local Man Dies In Knoxville Accident

A Mount Carmel, Tenn. native and Sullivan South graduate died last night as a result of a car crash in Knoxville.

Joseph (Joe) Johnson, 29, died in the crash on Martin Mill Pike near the intersection with Kings Mountain Lane around 4 a.m., according to reports.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, alcohol was involved in the fatal crash Monday morning.

The News-Sentinel reports that Johnson was driving a 2000 Grand Am south on Martin Mill Pike when he failed to negotiate a curve and went down an embankment. During the crash, a tree limb sliced off part of the driver’s side of the car before the car ran into another tree, reports state.

The owner of the car, Christopher Greer, 22, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Neither Greer nor Johnson were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Both live on Simpson Road in South Knox County.
