Groups Work Together to Reforest Mine Site in Haysi

Haysi, Va. – Mining agency officials and environmentalists worked together with more than 90 Dickenson County schoolchildren today to improve the land and the future in the coalfields region.
In what would once have been an unlikely collaboration, the group planted tiny chestnut trees on the Splashdam Strip, a former mining site in Haysi. The purpose was to help revive the nearly wiped out American chestnut, reforest mined land and build hope and a solid future for the rising generation.
