Other trees near the daycare were cracked, and had the possibility of falling. Crews cut them down to prevent more danger.
Mosheim, Tenn.—The Tender Heart Day Care in Mosheim wasn’t brimming with children this morning. Instead, the scene was packed with chain saws and tractors. They were cleaning up fallen trees, and working to repair power lines.
At about 6:15 Wednesday morning, heavy rains and winds knocked down several trees; one through the playground, and one of which landed on the roof of the infant room of the day-care.
Luckily, since the storm hit early in the morning, most of the children had not arrived for the day. The owner, Kathy Holt, said she heard the rain, and heard a loud crash. She took the one boy who was there with her as she explored the damage.
“The tree came all the way through the roof,“ said Holt, “and a tree was hanging down over a baby’s bed.“
Most of the damage was from water. Day care employees worked fast to pull out everything from the infant’s room, clear out parishables from the kitchen, and dump loads of water as soon as they could.
Family and friends worked to cut the trees that had fallen, and bring down others nearby that could possibly fall at another time.
