Crazy Cajun Restaurant Goes Up in Flames

“I don’t know how to describe this feeling it was like part of my life just left,” said a somber Ed Michell. “The Crazy Cajun” owner will spend Tuesday sifting through the remnants of his charred restaurant.

The Crazy Cajun was a country favorite with the spice of New Orleans. Now, there’s a hard time ahead for the Big Easy eatery.

Flames shot out of The Crazy Cajun Restaurant early Tuesday morning in the 53-hundred block of Kingsport Highway in Johnson City.

Gray, Jonesborough, and Sulphur Springs volunteer fire crews battled the blaze 45-minutes.

First responders say the fire ravaged the restaurant, starting in the rear and working up the walls.

“It’s one hundred percent smoke damage, probably about 65-percent fire damage,“ said Gray Volunteer Fire Chief David Hawkins. The first responder says the flames started in the back and raced toward the front door.

The cleanup and investigation will continue into the day.

Eyewitness Says Early Morning Fire “Gutted” Crazy Cajun Restaurant

A Tri-Cities tradition went up in flames Tuesday morning.

First responders rushed to the scene of an early morning fire at the Crazy Cajun Restaurant.

The fire call came into dispatchers around 5:30 for 5358 Kingsport Highway in Johnson City.

Dispatchers tell Your Tri-Cities News Source it is taking a team effort to douse the flames. Gray, Jonesborough and Sulphur Springs volunteer fire fighters are working to put the fire out.

First responders are reportedly running into problems with one of the hydrants along the street. Washington County Sheriffs’ deputies are working to re-route traffic around the area.

So far officials say there was no one in the restaurant. There are no reported injuries.
