Eastman Chemical Spill
Another chemical spill at Eastman Chemical Company on Wednesday morning.
Eastman officials say there was a brief accidental discharge in the South Fork Holston River due to the over-pressurization of a process reactor.
The spill was a mixture of diethyl ether, the same type of spill that occurred on July 28, 2009, and tetraethyl pyrophosphate.
Representatives from Department of Environment and Conservation’s Johnson City field office conducted a site investigation Wednesday morning.
Eastman reports no employees were injured but approximately one dozen fish were killed. Eastman does not expect this release to have any further adverse impact on the South Fork Holston River. A team is investigating the incident.

Eastman bosses sit around the big table and says who`s next for a big ....................
One would think with a repeat violation that TDEC would be imposing fines. It will be interesting to see what happens. Were the 12 fish killed as a result of the spill the last 12 left?
I wonder if these chemicals cause cancer? If so, the full impact may not be known for some time.
East Tennessee fine the Mighty Eastman.. HAHAHAHA never happen, maybe a big wet sloppy kiss but no fines
It’s a shame that Eastman has such a strong political influence in this area because of its money and the number of jobs it provides. Eastman should be fined. There should be systems in place to make sure these things don’t happen. A hefty fine may provide the motivation needed to ensure this mistake doesn’t continue to happen. Two spills in less than two months! Why are we not outraged that we are allowing businesses like these to polute and destroy our environment?
