We now know the names of those involved in Thursday night gunfire in Smyth County, VA. The Smyth County Sheriff’s Department said 41-year old William Dennis Osborne went to his home on Vipperman Hollow Road in the Sugar Grove Community. Investigators said once he reached the porch, he fired several rounds into the house through a window. His wife, Pamela Osborne and his daughter suffered gunshot wounds. The sheriff’s department said Osborne’s son, who was inside the home, returned fire, but did not hit his father.
Deputies say Dennis Osborne then ran to his truck. When Smyth County deputies got him out, they discovered he had what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He is listed in critical condition in a Roanoke trauma unit. His wife and the juvenile female are being treated at an area hospital.

Three people are in the hospital this morning after investigators say a gunman shot relatives in Smyth County, Virginia Thursday night.
Smyth County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Kenny Lewis tells us he believes that a man shot two members of his own family. Lewis says both victims are women and one is a juvenile. He also says that the suspected gunman also sustained injuries from being shot, but it is unclear how he was wounded. The gunman did not shoot the other relative in the house at the time of the shootings.
According to Lewis, EMS took the two females to Smyth County Community Hospital where they are in stable, but guarded condition. He says they underwent surgery upon arrival.
EMS transported the suspected gunman to Wytheville Hospital. This morning we found out the suspected gunman was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, where he is in very critical condition.
The sheriff’s department thinks this situation resulted from a domestic disturbance. Lewis says they’ve received repeated calls from this family regarding domestic disturbances in the past.
