An ongoing drug investigation in Carter County has led to the arrest of Jackie Redd, 54, of 2207 Highway 91, Elizabethton, Tenn. as well as the seizure of almost $30,000.

A small amount of marijuana and morphine tablets were also seized along with a 1992 GEO vehicle, according to police.

At 5 a.m. this morning, Redd was arrested by deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office after police say they found him at a residence on Bishop Hollow Road, Elizabethton.

Redd had been under investigation for several months, but this morning he was an unwanted guest at someone’s home and police were called.

According to reports, a search by Carter County deputies and their K-9, Desiel, led to the seizure of drugs and currency.

Redd is also currently on parole from the Tennessee Department of Corrections, and police say he is considered to be a violent man because of past convictions for drug trafficking and murder.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and charges are anticipated. REDD is scheduled to appear before the Honorable Judge John Walton on August 4 at 9 a.m. and is currently being held in the Carter County Detention awaiting the setting of a bond.

If the jails/prisons allowed the “non-violent” offenders to be on parole or house arrest, they wouldn’t be too crowded to accomodate these violent criminals. Our judicial system needs to take a long hard look at these discrepencies and make some serious changes. On another matter, what happened to the good old days when baby rapers/molesters went to prison and were killed by their fellow inmates? At least that way they weren’t able to be paroled out to kill/molest another child.

The Johnson City Press is reporting that Redd was sentenced to life in prison for murder in June 1990.

And lets not forget the idiots in Hawkins County who gave some DUI offenders community service because they didnt have room in the jail. They can sure find the room for the marijuana offenders though.
