The brother of a Washington County, Va.,  sheriff’s deputy is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he fired several shotgun blasts at his sister’s house Tuesday night while trying to gain entry.

Sheriff Fred Newman said Dean Edward Pullon, 42, had been drinking heavily throughout the afternoon when he took a 12-gauge shotgun and began randomly firing at his younger sister’s home on the 7000 block of Gate City Highway, as he walked toward it.

Dreama Pullon, a 13-year veteran with the sheriff’s office, was off-duty at home with her family around 4 p.m. when her brother, who lives in a mobile home about 80 yards away, began shooting, Newman said.

Dreama Pullon thought she’d been shot when a pellet grazed her back, and she contacted the sheriff’s office, he said.

Dean Pullon unsuccessfully tried to get in a back door before walking around the house where deputies used “less lethal” rounds to subdue him, and took him into custody without further incident, Newman said.

The sheriff described the rounds as plastic pellets that don’t penetrate the body.

Newman could not comment on Dean Pullon’s motives other than citing heavy alcohol consumption as a contributing factor in a “domestic-type” situation, he said.

Dean Pullon was charged with attempt to maliciously shoot with intent to maim, disfigure or kill; shooting into an occupied dwelling; and reckless handling of a firearm.

More charges are pending, Newman said. No one was seriously injured in the incident.
